SMS Golden Axe Tyris Flare Edition Project
Hack of Golden Axe for Sega Master System









This is a ROM hack that replaces Ax Battler (Tarik), with Tyris Flare, for the Sega Master System version of Golden Axe.
This hack also replaces pretty much every graphic in the game, as well.
It's currently in a WIP state, but there isn't much left to do.

Golden Axe III for NES - Russian Translation

Golden Axe III, a pirate port of the Sega Genesis game of the same name.
Although the port is crooked, but it can be considered more or less complete, it has forks (only one) and bonuses with knocking out magic from dwarves.
In addition to the translation, the names of locations that were not in the port were added (cutscenes were shown without text).
The game is fully translated from Chinese into Russian, including the final credits.

Y'know what I like about the Golden Axe lore that I believe most take for granted?
I liked that from all the medieval weapons they could of chosen, they chose an axe.

Think about it. They could of chosen a sword. Why? Because swords are popular and of elegant shape such as Excalibur, Kusanagi-no-tsurugi, Master Sword, Heavenly Sword, Soul Edge and Soul Calibur and every other legendary sword out there. But no, Sega chose a rather heavy, rather brutish weapon known to be used by burly types such as vikings, barbarians and executioners and made this particular axe to be golden and heavenly.

Makes me wish the Golden Axe series was more popular because as I mentioned in my list of examples there are many fantasy games where a legendary sword plays a big role but rarely are the less conventional medieval weapons play any such significance.

In The Legendary Axe there was a barbarian named Gogan who was out to rescue his girlfriend. While his axe "Sting" may not be golden, his girlfriends name was Flare... Perhaps an old flame of Tyris?

But yeah, perhaps a factor of why Golden Axe isn't so popular is because swords are more popular than axes. But a game with another legendary sword would be just as generic so I think it's still a bold and creative decision for the game to have a revered axe.

If there is a remake of Golden Axe Warrior, be prepared to be compared to TLOZ: Link's Awakening a lot.

Limited Run Games releasing an English package version of the SEGA Astro City Mini

The Limited Run version of the SEGA Astro City Mini will only be limited to 3,500 units, which will probably make this version sought after in the collectors market compared to the regular Japanese version.
As far as I know, the SEGA Astro City Mini unit included inside the English packaging is exactly the same as the Japanese retail unit.

PS3 and PSP Stores Shutting Down Permanently in July With Vita Following In August

The PS3 and PSP stores will permanently close on July 2, 2021, while the Vita store will remain available until August 27, 2021.
That's according to The Gamer, which claims a "source familiar with the situation" revealed details about the closure.
