McLaren Racing Live, the free fan event currently taking place in London's Trafalgar Square which celebrates the Formula 1 team and its drivers, is packed with exclusive merchandise for Sonic the Hedgehog fans who make the trip to the UK capital. The live event is taking place across two days this week; July 2 and July 3. SEGA and the Sonic brand have currently pitched a pop-up booth as part of its recently-announced multi-year partnership with the McLaren brand.

Goodies include a McLaren x Sonic t-shirt, Moor-Art Gallery print of Sonic and Knuckles racing through London and - incredibly - a limited edition manga illustrated by Yuuki Imada printed specially for the event. No, it's only Shipping to US, Canada, EMEA, and LATAM.
Damn. That's UK out.
Actually I agree with him.
He said  "I think it would be about as much time and energy as it would to make a new title. Part of me is thinking maybe I should just make a brand new title."
I'd rather they focus their resources to make new game (like Sonic Adventure 3 may be) instead and let the remake and the remastered thing to third parties.
Remember that Sonic Mania, Sonic Origins, and Sonic Superstars were developed by third parties, Sonic Team then was polishing and publishing it.
I doubt we will get a Sonic Adventure 3 without 1 and 2 being remastered.
He especially said "what it would take to kind of bring that game up to the standards and expectations of what the modern gaming audience would want", as in if he did remake or remastered the Adventure games, their gameplay, physics and expectations would conform to the current expected gameplay of Sonic games. Such as replacing spin dash with boost or gameplay like Frontiers over the original free-form platforming gameplay it originally had.

This is why I strongly believe they should've added Dreamcast Sonic (and maybe Dreamcast Shadow as well) to SXSG. Then they would've had a Sonic to specifically market and be faithful to Dreamcast-era remakes and styled games, just as Classic Sonic caters to Classic-era styled games.
I think it's understandable since he has a big attachment to game console busines
(he was a member of the PlayStation & Dreamcast launch team afterall and both Nintendo Wii and Switch 1 has better launch than those two).
He's just being modest and humble.
This isn't 90s. SEGA doesn't have a war with Nintendo like back then.
I know that. But if Sega and Nintendo were to collaborate on something, it should be a "marketable rivalry".

Ever since racism was invented, humans have always been tribal in nature. Take Ireland for example, the Irish are proud of their heritage and oppose the British for the shit they have to put up with.
But if you ask a bunch of Irish people if they're Catholic or Protestants then they will take up groups against each others throats! because humans are tribal by nature.
But, certain video games and books has taken advantage of this by often making up factions in their fiction and selling merch specifically for those factions, purposely causing rivalry in their own fandoms. (Harry Potter most guilty of this, what with the four Hogwarts Houses), so wouldn't it be fun if Sega and Nintendo did something similar, based on the rivalry they had in the past?

The Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games are proof of concept, if you think about it.

An entire continent of Asia is left out too.

Those examples are working because they're really rival.
SEGA's not Nintendo rival anymore.
Nintendo's rivas are Sony and Microsoft now.
And soon it will be just Sony since we know what's happened to XBox recently.

And if it's for sake past, it's only working if they released retro consoles together (like SNES Mini or Genesis Mini, but together).
If for new consoles, SEGA would rather avoid it. They are not console maker afterall.

About adapting the console rivalries into a game franchise...
Well, there's already ongoing franchise for that and it's fairly popular.
It's called Neptunia.

The latest one has Uzume Tennouboshi as a main star, who's representing SEGA Dreamcast.

The Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games are proof of concept, if you think about it.

They are battle of two biggest video game mascots, not game companies.

An entire continent of Asia is left out too.
Damn! Unfair. But as I suggested:
  • The other Sega stores could've at least import merch from America's Sega store.
  • They could also be a platform for Sega products not made by them, but still licenced. Such as Retro-Bit's Sega controllers.
  • Simply have cooler stuff to sell. Clothing, accessories and figurines are nice, such as the Sega Genesis Mini?
That's still just a speculation.
We don't know whether we're gonna get Sonic Adventure 3 or not.

Pardon my lack of enthusiasm. Especially if we do get a Sonic Adventure 3, whose to say Sonic Team will keep the formula faithful to how it was for the Dreamcast and not make Sonic Adventure 3 double as Sonic Frontiers 2?

If they had just "made up" Dreamcast Sonic, then they would have a Sonic I can trust to star in Sonic Adventure 3.

I thought the Sega Hard Girls were canon? Does Tennouboshi get along with Dreamcast well?

They are battle of two biggest video game mascots, not game companies.
But the console war between Sega and Nintendo are still the most well known. And with a wide variety of characters from both the Super Smash Bros. serie sand the Sega All-Stars series, there's plenty of characters to market a rivalry with.

Even after Sega lost the console war to Nintendo, "Who will win? Sonic or Mario?" is still just as popular "Superman vs Batman" or "Superman vs Goku" or other popular who will win questions.
And even to this day, there are still some loyalist who side between Sega and Nintendo, despite how vastly different they are now.

I don't trust Nintendo collaborating with Sega to have Sonic games, especially given Nintendo are the sort to push Sega down the stairs and the media will think Sega is just clumsy.
But, if done right, Sega and Nintendo could make a market rivalry if done right.

Importing from US would add the final cost.
May be they could have partners from around the countries the store's in or from within the country itself to cut the costs.
At least they already have three official stores (eventough none of them shipped to our countries), that's a start.

May be it wouldn't have to be Sonic Team who made Sonic Adventure 3.
It could be third parties who cared about "Dreamcast Sonic" but so far I don't see any fan games that could catch their attention.

I thought the Sega Hard Girls were canon?

They are canon but it's in different universe.
Sega Hard Girls in anime, in "Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax" game, and in crossover game "Superdimension Neptune VS Sega Hard Girls" aren't the same.
They had their own universe.

Does Tennouboshi get along with Dreamcast well?

Yes, they fought at first meeting but then got along later.

Unlike SEGA Hard Girls who only based on SEGA consoles, Neptunia characters are more than SEGA console girls.
For side characters, we got Noire based on PlayStation 3.

Blanc (front in the pic) based on Nintendo Wii.
Vert (back in the pic) based on Xbox 360.

While the main character, Neptune, of course representing Sega Genesis/Mega Drive and Sega 32X combined as ... SEGA Neptune.

Later in the game you'll find many characters based another consoles too (PC-Engine/TurboGrafx-16, Neo Geo, etc) and even based another game companies (Bandai Namco, Capcom, etc).

Sure they are popular but the question is ... for what purpose?
Nintendo doesn't have to do that to make profits.
And if they did that, their other partners (game companies that released games on their Switch) would get jealous and asked for special treatment too like the one they gave to SEGA.

It would help. Make the sega Store the biggest hub of Sega merch as possible! Not just selected groups of products.
And it would be nice if they also did third-party products as well. I had to buy my Sega Saturn Pro controller off eBay, it was lucky Retro-Bit had an official account on it to buy from despite it not being listed on their website.
Sega Store could be the middle-man or provider for such things.
    I don't know either.

If Sonic Speed Simulator can recreate it perfectly in their first try, the gameplay can easily be recreated as it is.
I have noticed a few fan games that achieved Adventure-like gameplay. The Bumper Engine for example, which is a recreation of Dreamcast-era-like gameplay for Sonic in Unity, but open-source.
Still, if Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 were remastered, or Sonic Adventure 3 was made by a third-party developer, would Sonic Team still back them up?
