In Japan, Tails uses the word "isekai" (another world, like uncle from another world) so it's still unclear since it could mean "dimension" traveler like US version but it could mean another too.
So Tails could've said "you're Sonic from another world!", which would've been even more confusing.

I agree. It's time to give morespotlight and characteristic to Vanilla. I do like your idea of making her as a chao specialist. I think it could work especially she has that motherly charm that could bring comfort to chao.
Also, if we ever do get a "Sonic Adventure 3", or chao gardens return in a future Sonic game. Instead of Omochao, hint boxes or tutorials to teach us about chao, have Vanilla and Cream to teach players chao and how to care for them and such.
