Q : What compelled you to make Harlequest! on Sega Dreamcast of all platforms?
Ross: Targeting an older platform forces you to get creative with what you choose to include in the game. Having limited resources means you can’t bloat the game with filler, and you need to choose an aesthetic that works within those limitations. I find this much more inspiring and fun than targeting a modern platform, and it allows me to make a love letter to the games I enjoyed growing up. I hope that HarleQuest! finds a place on the shelves of any retro collectors and that it’s something people actually want to pick up and play.

Cubecat (SEGA Saturn) - April 2023 Updates

Been a while since I posted any Cubecat updates. Nothing huge to show yet but I wanted to share this cool little trick that I figured out.
For a while I thought it would be fun to have moving platforms that wouldraise and lower in the water, but couldn't figure out a good way to move the cutoff point between half transparent and non transparent up and down mid polygon (the other polygons are either entirely "above" or entirely "below" the water).
But I just thought of a way to modify the gouraud shading to achieve it, so I threw together some boxes as test objects, and It works great! 
The water line can now be at variable heights on a polygon

The Afterschool Adventurers Club is a rogue-lite dungeon-crawler game set in the 80's, where players alternate between their High-School tabletop roleplaying club and their Game Master's campaigns.
The magic shop sells upgrades for your magic spells, and will also give you gold in exchange for any item you are carrying.
Creating this shop UI was unexpectedly complex, there is a lot going on (cost in gold/essence/ore, upgrade previews, descriptions...) and on SMS there is not a lot of screen real estate...
but Eric Thibodeau Raymond and I found a way that works!

A new and original puzzle game. Match the blocks, reach par, but make sure no block is left behind.

Vexed is an addictive puzzle game where you must match the blocks to remove them from the level. Sometimes three blocks must be removed in a single move. Line up the blocks to stop them from connecting. If you’re left with any single blocks remaining, you'll have to start the level again.

The higher number of moves, the higher the score, where the goal is to get the lowest score possible. It's possible to go negative, the accepted solution isn't always the best.

Added Zaverox for SEGA Genesis / Mega Drive

A Sega Genesis action platformer videogame for the Retro Platform Jam #6.

In the 31st century humankind has spread and inhabits numerous planets and space stations across the galaxy. Terran Defence League forces - a vast space-faring navy and marine corps - representing the interests and security of the majority of the human population are at war with the Renegade Coalition.

In the outer spiral arm of the galaxy, in the Shima 280 system, the super-moon Zaverox orbits the gas-giant planet Icritis. Zaverox is a rich source of many valuable materials to the Renegade Coalition military, and the geothermal reactors and refineries they have situated there are of major tactical importance. Ceasing their operation would deal a major blow to the enemy and significantly shorten the conflict. An orbital strike against Zaverox by the Terran Defence League would destroy many resources and cause untold collateral damage, however, so instead a covert approach is dictated - insertion of a lone marine in Factor 5 armour, with a mission to locate, infiltrate and destroy the enemy's complex of underground installations via the moon's natural cave systems and Renegade Coalition mines.

The mission is observed and assessed by Terran Defence League command, with points awarded based on exploration of the zone of action, adversary kills, asset collection, objective completion, etc. This score is used to justify continuation of the mission with the investment of replacement marine forces in the event that the lone operative should fall, with a freshly de-tanked marine teleported to the most recently secured position along the infiltration route. This mission will encounter not only Renegade Coalition combatants and automated security devices, but also Zaverox's dangerous fauna and environmental hazards.
