TLDR; Sega having a variety of IP is bad unless its the IP I want therefore bad Sega.

You know it's funny. People say Nintendo never makes new IPs, yet this year alone the company produced Box Boy, Codename S.T.E.A.M., and Splatoon. "No those don't count because I hate it" doesn't count as an answer, and it's not even the only year where new IPs were created.

Also I would like to point out that SEGA is the company that like to pretend they have only one IP, not Nintendo. Especially blatant in the West where it seems like the only thing they care about is Sonic. Before you mention Shenmue III and Yakuza 5, remember that it's more so because of Sony why they're even relevant.

Not true. SEGA have always been strong in the west for multiple titles like the strategic or FM series or console games, not just Sonic. Shenmue was strongly desired before Sony stepped in. Sony just provided Yu Suzuki the platform to launch it from. Yakuza has always been popular. As for Nintendo, they have had some new titles (only Splatoon as a big one though), but compared to SEGA, not much.

Sequels means that you want more of the experiences that the IP only can give you and that's the reason that Nintendo's IP work as there is no reason for them to make new IP instead of offering new experiences by making sequels.

No one, and i mean no one asked for another Pikmin, Donkey Kong, or even New Super Mario Bros. Yet Nintendo refuses to listen to their fans and shove the same formula down their throats time and time again.

Quote
Fans of Phantasy Star should deserve more Phantasy Star games and the fact that SEGA tends to replace Phantasy Star with Valkyria Chronicles is awful.

Not sure which world you live in, but people actually like Valkyria Chronicles. Do fans want to see Phantasy Star out West? Of course we do, but we also enjoy the variety that SEGA develops/publishes out here.

The way you're saying that Nintendo milks their franchises to death is making me think that you haven't seen a LOT of games that Nintendo has made. If SEGA can't compete quality in the likes of Platinumgames, Treasure and even Capcom(Who is way better than SEGA btw) then don't expect SEGA to be more profitable than it is now. The only way SEGA can compete with them is to deliver quality and the only way to do that is avoiding stupid decisions like poorly marketing Rhythm thief and many other IP's.

Capcom is in no way better than SEGA. Aside from a few flagship franchises, a lot of their more recent titles have been shit. I mean, have you seen what Resident Evil has turned into? Lost Planet turned into shooter garbage. Where is Megaman Legends 3?

I don't understand where this argument of quality is coming from. Have you seen Nintendo's latest output? Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival, Tri Force Heroes, Happy Home Designer, Mario Party 10, Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash? Does that sound like quality titles to you?

Capcom rivaled SEGA, software wise, back in 1999/2000. Now, HA! Hardly...

I'm coming in this neutral since it does seem to be getting hostile.

I love SEGA's games (even the ones that get critiqued), and I love Nintendo games (even when they have their own problems).

Personally, I hate to see any company critiqued whether they have a lack of IPs, have too many IPs or whether their portfolio is good or not.

Of course, there is always a good discussion about SEGA here and of course some may mock other companies from time to time, but I do hope that it's never serious because at the end of the day we're all gamers and acknowledge each companies weaknesses (including SEGAs).

When I wasn't active before, it was more a lack of news on SEGA's side, but the news of games has me a little bit more excited than usual, and I wish SEGA the best to continue the good will.

At the same time though, they do seem to be backing off on console development, but as a company, they do what they have to do.

You know what company I've noticed making more and more IPs every year? Tecmo-Koei. Granted I used to just know them as the "Dynasty Warriors" company, but I am really respecting them for their new approach with their list of existing IPs as well as their new ones (DoA, Ninja Gaiden, the Atelier Series, Ar no Surge etc). I am pretty surprised actually, and I do hope that one day SEGA and TK collaborate on something incredible as the two seem to provide something the other couldn't in my eyes.

Anyway, that's my take on the thread, and I hope it doesn't sound like I am defending SEGA or Nintendo in this case, as I do love what they both do in their own way and see a little bit of one another in their gameplay sometimes.

Edit: The point about no one likes Valkyria Chronicles. I do, and I wouldn't like anyone thinking that one franchise replacing another is a bad thing. In this case, Phantasy Star and Valkyria Chronicles are too different to be related, so it's not been replaced at all.

Sega having a future can obviously only be guaranteed by Sonic Retro infiltrating the company. I will start a petition to make this happen I will update you guys on it also be sure to visit projectretro.co.

If you want SEGA to be bought by Nintendo that's all good, but I'd expect almost all of their franchises to be put away or sold off. Let's first assess SEGA themselves, I'm not talking about TMS animation or the resorts or even the arcade centres they own, I'm just going to focus on the home video game section.

SEGA has only one multi-million selling franchise, Sonic the Hedgehog. This series will continue to flourish under Nintendo.
SEGA's other successful console series Yakuza will most likely be shelved after the next one bombs on a Nintendo only console, there is just no market for mature titles on Nintendo consoles because the company themselves haven't tried to carter to that demograph.
Phantasy Star Online 2 would be in disarray mainly because Nintendo still hasn't comprehended how to handle digital services (Though that could have changed after their team up with the mobile company their working with)
Persona is a strange one, but I'll give this one the benefit of the doubt and say this too will flourish under Nintendo so long as it continues to do over a million.

Then we've got a bunch of series that see sales of under 400,000. I just don't see Nintendo continuing with Hatsune Miku or Puyo Puyo. They might look to continue them for a while but they've shown to shelves series that don't push good numbers. The opportunity costs for them is just too great.

As for Relic, The Creative Assembly and Sports Interactive? I expect all three to have little use to Nintendo since they're primarily PC developers.

So I'm just not seeing where this "Nintendo will save them" idea is coming from, Nintendo could have bought Atlus for $100 million (Which with the Persona series alone would have made back the money they spent.) they didn't and I don't see them eager to buy SEGA, ESPECIALLY as now the majority of SEGA's money is coming from the mobile and PC markets.

I cant understand why someone would want that to happen other than living in a dreamworld. It just doesnt make sense in the real world, even for nintendo. Sonic is the only thing that fits in their comfort zone. The other things either dont fit or wouldnt be worth the effort and risk to build back interest for them. In many cases a failed attempt would be likely giving how times have changed

Oh I see how it is... You came here to tell us your ill conceived wet dream of SEGA going bankrupt so Nintendo can buy them up and only use Sonic... When that back fired it's just turned into baseless claims that SEGA SUX.
Platinum's games have been hit and miss from the beginning and Capcom? Capcom release a ton of crap.

So basically, you're a Nintendo fan boy coming onto a SEGA site and flip floping on your own argument. Okay.

Nailed it.

Just go back through this thread and see how his argument has changed. It's all about this talking SEGA and blowing Nintendo. He can't seem to listen to anything anyone says and would rather keep saying 'SEGA games suck.'

'You guys just aren't getting it' he tells genuine SEGA fans, while he comes to a SEGA fan site and tries to tell us what to like.

The only reason this guy isn't banned yet is because it's kind of entertaining watching his argument get torn to ribbons.

Ok you know what? Fine, There's no point of even making this argument. SEGA's awesome and Nintendo isn't because that's the entire point most of you are trying to make here.

Just wait next year and we'll see how SEGA shapes things up. The latest Total War game is already being hated by some fans.

So ok, if PC and Mobile is making the most profit, then how about SEGA port their classics on PC? Is it really that hard to port games on PC especially when SEGA can make a LOT of money bringing SEGA Master System games or Dreamcast games on PC which they haven't done much of?

Keep praising SEGA because you don't like the criticism that I'm giving to SEGA and I'm only bashing SEGA because they are better than delivering crappy games and they are better than even Nintendo(To you atleast).

Also, you say that Nintendo doesn't make mature games.....what about Fire Emblem, Metroid, Xenoblade and Eternal Darkness? Like I said, you haven't really seen a LOT of their games. And yes, people still want Mario games even now so obviously, there's a market otherwise, why would the New series sell more than a million?

Nobody ever said that... You're the one that came here and said SEGA games are crappy... (your words) And that Nintendo only make quality titles... We're only disagreeing and giving you evidence to back up our claim.

That has been the case with every TW game since the beginning of time, that's the nature of a few vocal TW fans, they whiney about all sorts... It still sells like hotcakes and this new one will sell better than any other... Again you're wishing harm on SEGA and their IPs... Pretty sad.

SEGA have LOADS of their classics on Steam... Literally no other Japanese company has more games on Steam than SEGA do.

There you go again with the crappy games thing... That is only your opinion. I've played plenty of great SEGA games recently, hell Yakuza 5 released in the West last week.

Get this one thing straight.....

Yakuza 5 didn't come from SEGA's change of heart. The only reason it came is because of Sony and nothing else. Do you honestly think that the next Valkyria game will come to the west? Very unlikely.

I stated that compared to Nintendo who works hard to make bug free games majority of the times, SEGA isn't the one who can be like Nintendo. When oh when was the last time that besides a few games, you often see a finished game with no bugs or crashes from SEGA games? Nintendo games when you play them are atleast finished games with nearly no bugs in them.

What evidence are you giving by saying that Nintendo plays it safe compared to SEGA where they do crap? For crying out loud, the Wii U isn't doing well for Nintendo. this year for Nintendo is a disaster because not only did they lost Satoru Iwata, things just were under huge pressure for them because they were struggling to maintain their emotions and whatnot and that has to probably explain why the games for this year weren't much. Even if SEGA games aren't crap, they still aren't great games. Tembo a mixed response and I can go on here.

Again, you're defending SEGA from the total war argument. Sure, the games will sell well but if SEGA is going to put microtransactions in them, that's even worse than usual.

I think you need this video here to explain it all.

Pretty much none of the SEGA games have bugs. The only ones I can think of that do, is the external ones like Gearbox and big red button - which were widely considered terrible. And, again, you've changed the argument. First it was why haven't they made sequels, now it's why haven't they made bug free games.

Sony had nothing to do with Yakuza, so, again, you're making stuff up. That video was published in August. Since then, the company has already come out and said they're changing their approach.

Tembo got mostly positive reviews I'll think you'll find.

As for Nintendo, are you seriously suggesting Iwata's death is the reason they've been bad? They've been dropping the ball even when he was alive. So don't you DARE use that as an excuse. Nintendo's output is and has always been their own fault. They failed to reinvest money they made from the Wii on their own portfolio of studios (on western ones especially), they've failed to read the market and made a terrible console even they've struggled to find a purpose for and yet again, they've failed to see the importance of third party support.

I wish Iwata's family and friends the very best and the world is a far dimmer places without him, but do not for a moment think he was perfect in his time at Nintendo. He made some shockingly poor choices at times that has led to where Nintendo are right now.

You might be thinking I hate Nintendo, but I really don't . Nintendo do make fun games, but the amount of ass kissing that goes on by the media is of no surprise to me as many people in said media grew up on Nintendo consoles. What I hate about Nintendo is some of the ridiculous decisions they make that do nothing but alienate them. Decisions even a blind man can see are wrong.

Valkyria has a confirmed Western trademark. It's coming over.

When oh when was the last time that besides a few games, you often see a finished game with no bugs or crashes from SEGA games?

What? Now I'm convinced you only play Sonic games. Hatsune Miku, Yakuza 0, Dengaki Fighters Climax don't have many if any bugs and their third party games didn't this year either far as I know.

I think you need this video here to explain it all.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZsGlmNM8OhA

I don't even have to watch that video but I bet he mixes SEGA's gaming division with SEGA Sammy. The gaming division has seen growth for the last three years.
