She socially struggles though given other children think she's weird or the adults think she is making up excuses or just a problem child. It's only Ms. Chie Hasumi who is the only caregiver that's supportive of her. While she cannot see the spirits like the other adults, she acknowledges they are there and Kaya-Chan is protecting everyone from them. In believing her, she has become the much-needed support Kaya-Chan needed.
Spoiler:
The only spirit that is beyond her power is the one possessing her pregnant mother. Kaya-chan no longer recognise her own mother and detest the oncoming baby for whatever ghost-abomination it, maybe. It is, however, likely she herself is half-spirit.
