Well.. To sum it up ... The freemium thing in Sonic Runners wasn't that much different with in Sonic Rumble.

I see, though I dunno how heavy the freemium ads were in Runners.

As long as Sonic rumble isn't plastered with them, then that's okay.

I really wish for this game's success and don't wanna it ended up as Sonic Runners, 404 GAME RE: SET, and SEGA Heroes.

The fact Sonic Rumble had a PC release would be a BIG help for it. Mobile+Pc means a larger, more accessible player base.

Take Marvel Puzzle Quest for example which was released a few years before Sega Heroes, it was also made by Demiurge and a puzzle-based action game like Sega Heroes. But unlike Sega Heroes, it has a PC release and can still be playable to this day.

But still, when it comes to "Freemium" games, I'd rather spend at least a subscription that remove pop-ups and ads and give a fair share of accessible content, over the game making you grind or spend.

It what got me off Sonic Speed Simulator. It may have been free, but ever since the Mega Update it became more of a grind than it was before. Things like "Destroy 350 badniks", "Beat Jet in a dozen races" or "Collect a dozen gold medals" just felt like a chore over time than fun.

Marvel Puzzle Quest also has its own problems though.
At first both PC and Mobile version ran simultaneously well but after some time mobile version got more treatment.
For example mobile version get free promotions all the time while PC version do not.
I guess it's making sense from nusiness point since mobile version has more players than PC version.

There are many games that now let you auto grind once you had cleared the stage once so it's not about time-consuming chores thing anymore but it's more about "lives".
They had finite "lives" (that refreshed every hour/hours) so there's a restricition on how many times we can auto-grind.
Of course we can spend real money / in-game money to buy more "lives" but that's only for whales or if we are not patient.
