I like to think that SoA and SoJ agreed to common grounds for modern Sonic lore.
In Japan, the villain was always known as Dr. Eggman.
In the west, the villain was always known as Dr. Ivo Robotnik.
So, as  compromise, he was renamed Dr. Ivo "Eggman" Robotnik, but called Dr. Eggman by most.

I think it's a good compromise. I remember I was kinda confused back then to see the difference of how he was portrayed in Sonic OVA vs in the American mini series (STH, SatAM, Underground), thinking are they even the same person.

SoA is practically only in one country while SoE is too diverse since they were not just in one country.
For example German has their own story version of Sonic from their Sonic the Hedgehog audiobook series on cassette and CD in 1992 and 1993, featuring unique original characters like Hanni the rabbit and Bobbi Bär.
France too, they have their own Sonic Adventures (1994), published by Sirèn which featured unique lore, including an Echidna princess named Alucion and the Grey Emerald. So if they want to have a say, which country they represent since it's different from each other?

I'm not familiar with Hanni the rabbit and Bobbi Bär, but I recall Sonic Adventures. I figured that was just a one-time comic.
