A new cheat code for ""Buzz Lightyear of Star Command"" (SEGA Dreamcast, PSX) that hasn't been published before has been found.

Quote
Bo: "* SEGA Dreamcast: A, B, Y, X, Y, B, A, A
* PlayStation: X, Circle, Triangle, Square, Triangle, Circle, X, X, X

On the NTSC-U Dreamcast version, the cheat sets the flag at 8c0a0d28.

Nothing came out from SEGA especially if it's related to Sonic would be 'small'.
Websites would blow it out of poroportions and calling SEGA lazy and other mean names.
Even SEGA Shiro commercials who's only targeted to Japan somehow being used to make clickbait articles in many websites as if SEGA would reveal new consoles for the rest of the world.
Seems a little unfair. I understand why Sonic Team can't put time and effort into fixing Sonic '06 or Shadow given they're working on current projects. But if they release the games as they are then the fan-community would sure to fix them on their behald. (We already have fan-makes such as Project '06 and Shadow Reloaded.)

And don't get me wrong, those who pirate modern games are criminals given they're technically stealing, all the while the games are on shelves or being marketed. But I think it's unfair that those who pirate old-exclusives or abandonware games are regarded just as bad when the availability of those games aren't easy.
They gave them access to Majima, Death Adder, and Eggman so I'll say SEGA is pretty much involved.
True. Kinda wish Sega would give Merge Games/Janken Team some love and allow them to DX' Enchanted Castle or make a third instalment to the series.
I don't think Lost Stars or Hi-Tech World need a remake, but Sega or Jankenteam missed a golden opportunity to DX' Shinobi World for promotion of Art of Vengeance.

It is unfair, but that's business.
Preservation of the games are least of their concern.
They got a brand that have a reputation to maintain.

It's not just the games.
In term of merchs, Alex Kidd don't sell.
Not much interest of it, it never won or even showed up in a game-to-toys voting/poll.
No fans ever pick him. May be they love him, but their love is still below to their love of other SEGA's franchise.
The one who got much interest (other than Sonic) are always Streets of Rage, Shinobi, and Golden Axe.

True, but I still wish it was easily accessible.

Me: Tries to pirate an old Sega games.
Sega: "Oi! Stop doing that! That is illegal!
Me: "Then why don't you make it more accessible and providable for a fair, small fee?"
Sega: "No."
Me: Continues pirating old games.

But isn't that Sega's fault at the time?
Alex Kidd was design to compete with Super Mario at the time. But Alex only had two major games and three spin-offs. Lost Stars and Hi-Tech World wasn't that good. Alex Kidd in Shinobi World was just Shinobi 1 but with a cartoon-approach.

Granted, Sega took a new champion against Mario with Sonic and found more success, but they could've done something with Alex Kidd, such as repurposing him to compete against Nintendo's other leading franchises, such as Zelda or Kirby.

But they didn't, likely because they regarded Alex Kidd a lost cause due to bad games and lack of new ones.

But the way I see it, Alex Kidd DX is a golden opportunity to not only revive the franchise but to bring it into it's own direction. Though it seems Sega are squandering it yet again.

Jankenteam could've released "Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle DX" and followed it up with a brand-new Alex Kidd game!

In this case, with Shinobi: Art of Vengeance being one of Sega's hottest games during release, they could've made "Alex Kidd in Shinobi World DX" that could primarily promote Art of Vengeance!

Nintendo on the other hand ...

Remember that Alex Kidd DX first began as a fan remake in 2018 and they got the greenlight from Sega to turn the remake into a official game (SEGA rarely does that. Almost never in fact.)
Unfortunately Alex Kidd DX didn't get good reviews and we know that SEGA now cares about Metacritic scores.
The new graphic and music is actually good but the classic mode is messed up since things have been changed from the original and many old fans didn'tlike it.
The transition isn't as good as in Wonder Boy's Dragon Trap.
That's why I think SEGA puts Alex Kidd back into the shelves again and won't easily greenlight anything ever again.

In this case, with Shinobi: Art of Vengeance being one of Sega's hottest games during release, they could've made "Alex Kidd in Shinobi World DX" that could primarily promote Art of Vengeance!

And met with bad reviews again? Naah.
Besides Shinobi marketing team is kinda different with what's in our mind.
We would think that they would put Shinobi or ninja theme in Sonic Sims or other SEGA games and that would be enough for marketing but they didn't do that.

Their approach are different.
They engaged with games community.
They're sending giveaway and free codes.

They're actively coming in game/comic/anime conventions and put demos for people to play.

And it worked. Not only the games sold well, the merchs are also gaining interests.

Remember that franchise isn't just only selling games, but also merchs and licensing,

Sounds like even when Alex kidd catches a break, he ends up with a broken leg.

It's a pity though, Shinobi hit hard and well, but Alex Kidd did not.

This story is actually a jab/critic to SEGA ... which of course they either didn't listen/get it or chose to ignore it.

It's a pity though, Shinobi hit hard and well, but Alex Kidd did not.

I don't know how in your country but in Asia I think it's also had to do which how they start.
Most of SEGA classic franchises like Shinobi, Golden Axe, Space Harrier, Fantasy Zone, and even Altered Beast started in arcade.
Alex Kidd didn't, he do appear in arcade but Alex Kidd: The Lost Stars wasn't that good compared other SEGA arcade titles at that time.

Game consoles like SEGA Master System was considered as luxury here so almost nobody had it and nobody knows Alex Kidd.
(Even NES' struggling to make appearance that's why a lot cheaper botleg NES consoles like Spica gained success here which angered Nintendo so much but that's another story).

Most gamers here in that era started in the arcade since it's a lot cheaper option and that's why they're more familiar with Shinobi and Golden Axe.
Sure there were Sonic and Streets of Rage, but they came a lot lot later.

We had Alex Kidd on console over here.

I like to credit him and Miracle World as the very first video game I ever played.

We were not poor, but we couldn't afford common luxuries. Most children, especially only-children, often had video game consoles to themselves. But the Mega Drive II we had for Christmas that year was to share amongst us. Still it was brand-new to us and it came with a game built into it. It was the first video game I ever played.

Yeah, I'm a Sonic fan true-and-through, but Alex Kidd has a special place in my heart for taking me on an adventure through my television I never knew possible at the time.

I blamed this one.
16-BIT POWER and yet the game is worse than its Master System prequel/spin-offs.

Asterix has same fate too.
His games were so good in Master System but Mega Drive version wasn't.

Mega Drive II or Master System II?
Mega Drive 2 was my first TV game console (not counting IBM PC XT) but I grew up in arcade environment.

Used to play Michael Jackson's Moonwalker, Street Fighter, or Virtua Fighter with my friends there.
That's why I was kinda sad when arcade was dead. It's like part of my childhood is also dead.
Well, they aren't really dead but the environment has changed drastically.
Most arcade games right now are amusement things to collect points that could be traded for rewards.

Maybe perhaps Sega just didn't know what to do with Alex Kidd.
From what I recall, the rights Sega had to a Dragonball game expired half-way through development of it. And with Mario rearing Nintendo, they needed a mascot to compete, so they refurbished the Dragonball game into Alex Kidd.

He was sorta decent against Mario, but not by much. But now what do Sega do with him? Enchanted Castle? A few spin-offs? Such a waste of potential.
Mega Drive II or Master System II?

you could always take your kids to arcades.
I often gripe how the arcades in UK are just cheap gambling machines.
