It's the earliest example of good party brawl game, people have fond memories of it.
Especially if the game was played with family or friends, the nostalgia factor would be more impactful.
Just like Super Smash Bros, the fighting game's was designed to multiple people playing together.

I just wish as a franchise it lasted longer. It only had the two games. Capcom could of at least reintroduce the characters in their other fighting games, like Marvel Vs Capcom or Project X Zone.

Capcom really neglected the franchise.
CMIIW, other than Ken's costume  the last time Falcon showed up is just a costume too, in Dead Rising 3.

Power Stone 3 does indeed need to happen.
But no representative in MvC series was kinda sign how Capcom think about the series.
Capcom now had stuck to Street Fighter and Monster Hunter.
Even I as Darkstalkers fan, that its characters got representative in MvC series, already gave up my hope on Darkstalkers' sequel.

Maybe they regard it too kiddy of a fighting game to take seriously? Despite that Smash Bros ain't all blood and muscle-rippled men (most of the time).

Khinsider Has Removed 500+ Albums Related to Sega

At the end of the day, over 500 albums were removed, including Sonic, OutRun, and others.

How did characters like Ruby Heart, Amingo, Cable and Marrow come to join Marvel vs. Capcom 2's iconic roster?

"As for Amingo, we noticed the Capcom side didn't have any non-human characters capable of really crazy movements, so he was designed in order to fulfill that role," continued Nakae.
The developers also wanted a brand new character to serve as one of the game's protagonists similarly to how Ryu and Cyclops were poised before, which is where Ruby Heart came in.

and gives the X-Men rep a unique bag of tricks

It's demonstrated during the short clip that Psylocke is capable of hitting all 3 level 1 hypers together in a single combo without assistance from other characters.
Her level 3 hyper creates illusion shadows that mimic the properties of her attacks, but all of their attacks can be blocked as mids to prevent solo unblockables.
