I don't think so. One of Pokémon franchise's successful factors is because it was released on Game Boy, which was cheap and affordable.
People would prefer that compared to buying a Dreamcast plus Chao's GD game.
Game Boy's lifespan was almost ended at that time (Pokémon brought them again to life), that's why they were very cheap.
Not to mention its portability factor too helped it to be easier to spread its games to friends.
If only SEGA's Game Gear was as success as Game Boy, that would be a different story.
True, but as you said, GameBoy's lifespan was almost at an end, and with the GameBoy Advance as a successor, as well as an unlikely franchise joining the Nintendo-line at the time, Sonic Team could've made Chao games for the GBA if they wanted to.

Chao as an independent franchise would've been late to the part in comparison to Pokémon, but if chao gameplay had tweaks here and there, I believe it could've been a contender.
Unfortunately James Gunn's still undecided whether his Batman would be based on Matt Reeve's or not.
His version of Batman in his mind (shown in his Creature Commandos TV series), who is bulky and brick house, is really different with Matt Reeve's skinny Robert Pattinson.

Matt Reeve's version, particularly the movie itself, I imagine is set during Batman's early years as a hero.
But, I would love to sit in with that business meeting (or at least café talk) between James Gunn and Matt Reeves on whenever or not their movies should share a continuity.
I would suggest that they should be business partners for the DCU. They can still make their own film series, just under the rule they share a continuity. Yes, The Batman movie was dark and gritty, with deeper and forlorn moments and Superman's movie was bright and a bit tongue-in-cheek, but I still believe it can work. Just that Metropolis and Gotham contrast one another drastically.
Plus, one thing I noticed when re-watching The Batman, I noticed how "childish" Batman was in some moments.
- When it comes to violence, such as beating up thugs, he is not as "reserved" as Batman from previous cartoons and movies. He's more of a brawler than a finesse fighter.
- The way he snatched the phone from Selina Kyle for having evidence. While granted Selina maybe reserved to share, he has done it in a way that reminds me of bullies taking things just because they can.
- When he was interrogating the Riddler, when he realised Riddler was up to something, instead of acknowledging Riddler won't talk and immediately find out for himself, he started punching the glass like a child who can't get his own way.
It's these subtle things with Batman's personality why I believe he can fit in this world James Gunn set up.
Yeah, but not as evil.
Nor a girl.
