The fact that Starline specified that this super-fast wi-fi was for playing multiplayer games implied that Eggman likes playing with other people.
He probably likes to annihilate them in-game and feel superior to everyone, sure, but that doesn't change the fact that he enjoyed playing with real players.
As such, it confirmed a part of him doesn't want to conquer the whole world and never will.

Uncle from Another World (Isekai Ojisan) Main Casting's Big Reveal

Koyasu Takehito (known as Dio's VA from Jojo series) is the voice actor for Uncle.
The main character of Uncle from Another World Manga is "Uncle", a SEGA hardcore fan which is somehow got transported to another world, become strongest man ever, and come back to real world and feel depressed when SEGA isn't producing console anymore.

but at least I can tell you this :

I'm sure Starlight Zone BGM would be presented in the anime too.
In Japan it was more recognized than Gren Hill Zone BGM because it was the song's used in UFO Catcher.
They were everywhere back then.

I don't know for new generations,
but yes for people who grew up with Sonic in Mega Drive / Genesis.
Most Sonic references are from the Mega Drive / Genesis Sonic games.
