I'm guessing it didn't went well. I don't know how many video game franchise stores there are in UK.

I believe there is an official Pokémon store somewhere, but I am unsure.

I guess it's also safer to just open pop-up stores since other than the costs reason, permanent stores don’t offer the same level of flexibility when it comes to business strategies, location, or layout.

SEGA’s UFO Catcher remains arcade mainstay after 40 years

Quote
Mitsuharu Fukazawa, who has devoted himself to the development of UFO Catchers at Sega over the course of more than two decades, explained the appeal of the claw machine that unearthed an entirely new trove of patrons.
“The fundamental style of play has remained unchanged throughout the UFO Catcher’s 40-year evolution: moving the crane to get a prize,” said Fukazawa. “This simplicity is likely among the reasons the game has long been embraced by people of all genders and ages.”
Another simple addition that would boost the UFO Catcher even more came in 1991 with the fourth-generation model emanating background music from ...

I guess so, but it's annoying when they pop-up in places I can't reach.

You are not alone.
Most of fans couldn't reach it since they usually open pop up stores only in largest or busiest cities of the countries.

There is no guarantee that they can make profit if they opened in our hometown.

True, I live in a small coastal town. But just because Britain is an island nation doesn't mean I can just "pop to the city" on a day-trip.

Texans like to boast how big their state in in America, you can fit all of Britain in Texas... sort of.

Same with Indonesia,  "pop to the city" on a day-trip isn't as easy as it sounded.
Indonesia is composed of some 17,500 islands, of which around 10,500 are habited with people.
But that pop up stores or game events were always only happened in 1 island.

That sucks. All of Indonesia can't just go to that one island.

Yeah, but that island alone (Java) has a bigger population than the entire Japan!

SEGA’s first Japan store signals ‘immersive entertainment’ push
Sales of SEGA's toys, clothing, and other merchandise generated ¥133 billion (about $895 million) for the company in the last fiscal year.

In a world where video game sales are almost entirely digital, why go back to brick-and-mortar stores? Merchandise.
Japanese video game publishers are increasingly listening to investors demanding they leverage their treasure trove of intellectual property into tangible goods that avid fans are only too happy to snap up.
The new retail outlet is part of what Sega calls its “transmedia strategy” and follows the opening of a Shanghai store in May. The move is meant to increase sales of toys, clothing and other merchandise, a segment that Sega says generated ¥133 billion (about $895 million) for the company in the last fiscal year.
“This year we’re targeting ¥175 billion,” says Justin Scarpone, executive vice president and head of global transmedia at Sega.
Scarpone says that Sega ...
