game intros that kick ass
« on: October 28, 2010, 12:14:15 pm »
I've recently been on a kick of watching game intros, specifically ones that kick ass.

Now when I say "intro", I don't mean opening cinematics or a cutscene before a first level. I'm talking about the lead in to the "press start" screen, or what appears while "press start" is flashing. Something that occurs as soon as you boot up a game without having to hit any buttons. Here are a few that I've recently enjoyed:

[youtube:aueuex8t]WWXgGaWN9cY[/youtube:aueuex8t]

[youtube:aueuex8t]EvpR9_AVhuk[/youtube:aueuex8t]

[youtube:aueuex8t]8lSS_izgMMA[/youtube:aueuex8t]

[youtube:aueuex8t]nig0kqYLUoU[/youtube:aueuex8t]

Okay, W&W was a little soft for a kick ass intro, but as an indie game I thought it kicked ass. Also the little Happy Birthday message was sweet.

Barry, I see your CVS intro and raise you a SVC:Chaos intro!

Here's one of my favourites ever though, from Age of Empires II: Age of Kings: this one is just brilliant IMO (Yes it's before you press any buttons, so it counts!)

^ I've got some pretty fond memories of the "Sonic Boom" version. I had the PC version and used to watch this intro movie over and over again.

I downloaded a while back a super high quality DVD+DL version of Sonic CD intro. Amazing work by some fans, remastered frame by frame.

Sonic was a total bad ass in that intro cutscene. All it would take to attract people to the sonic franchise is to show this opening and they'd be sold :afroman:

Call of Duty: World at War.
Such a great looking and well made intro, they used this propoganda style for all the mission intros too. I think WaW was probably my favourite COD game this gen.

^ Agreed, Shuffle has a great intro. Cool music and I liked the cel shaded renders. Also, looking back at it, I really like how it wasn't bogged down by characters introduced in Sonic Adventure 2 (Shadow, Rouge) and the Advance series (Cream).

The only stars are Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy because... that's really all they had! Depicted by their Dreamcast SA models to boot! Smartly, the secondary characters were unlockables, not shoehorned into the main story mode (Big the Cat, E-102, Super Sonic and a Chao).
Ah the good ol' days...

Two more kickass intros:
