SEGA develops a new SUPER HANG-ON???
« on: November 30, 2010, 09:02:32 am »
I discovered the name of the game on the Australian Classification Board at this URL:http://http://www.classification.gov.au/www/cob/find.nsf/5b6ebdff7f5b9a24ca2575ca00062226/3751a3d760946cabca2577ea005804fc?OpenDocument

the title is multiplat. but i'm not sure if it's a new version or the same title from 1987.

umm

here's a bit of wiki, I read this like 4 years back
Quote
Sega renewed the Super Hang-On trademark with the U.S Patent Office in early April 2006.[citation needed] There is speculation that a new Super Hang-On game might be released on one of the new-generation consoles or off the Sega Lindbergh architecture.[citation needed]

Although 4 years ago it wasn't tagged with citation needed.

In the perfect world this would be an HD remake, or even just a direct arcade port...

Most likely it is just the Genesis release for Steam but horribly ported without any special work done on it at all.

I was too excited, probably it's only the VC (WII) version of the original game  .

Yes cube I also noticed years ago the new trademark.

What you crying about?

Yu Suzuki had all his 80s catalog ported/remade for Windows CE (read Dreamcast), so he could use them in Shenmue's You Arcade.

So you won't have to worry about those games fall below expectations.

And when was the last time an AM2 game disappointed with the exception of Virtua Quest, they got way to over confident with that one.

SEGA did try and make a new Hang On game for the last generation and it really didn't get anywhere, I'm not sure what they could do with the series myself , Hang_On onthe Saturn was utter crap.

Maybe Sumo Digital will make a new one , they love the game so much, I'm sure they would do it for free on consoles or the PSP2. I rather see SEGA update Power Drift myself

I wouldnt mind either!

I agree though, I can't really see them getting anywhere with a new Hang-On. I think that is a series that should probably stay in the past because an update would only dilute its classic image. With a game that could never hope to be as innovative in the tech department or even in the minds of games in todays 'Its got to be really realistic or really zainey' market.

Bike games have come to the end of their evolution.

Now, if Sega are to do anything with a Bike series... Wild Riders would be perfect for XBLA/PSN. What an awesome game.

^ Agreed

Super Hang On should be part of a SEGA classic Sprite download collection for XBLA and PSN and left at that. The likes of Power Drift have much better potential for a console or Arcade update .

Speaking of Bikes I always wished Motor Raid used the Akria licence and a game made around the gangs streets fighting around the streets of Toyko with the Akria soundtrack blasting in the backround

I didn't like Power Drift all that much, even hang-on was nothing special and not my most played game on the genesis/md.

The most time I spent playing Hang-On was probably in Shenmue only. So if Hang-On is to be resurrected it has to offer more, but what you want it to offer?

I am not a racing game enthusiast and isn't the genre dying anyway.

Edit: Hadn't read TA's comments on the last page.
@TA: Sega can't take full responsibility for Hang-On Saturn, as it wasn't an in-house game and second it was delayed forever.

The game hit Japan in 94, US 95, Europe 96 and games aged alot faster durring the 4th Gen.

POWERDRIFT? A bit before your time, mate I'd thought PS carp like Wipeout is more your type. Prolly because its the only kind of "car" game you can actually play.

It was programmed by Genki but produced and designed by SEGA. No different from Daytona USA 2001 - Same deal, designed by SEGA programmed by Genki. I think SEGA should  take a lot of the flack, just like with Shinobi on the Saturn, which was also handed out to a 3rd party to program. Classic IP should always be handled with care, because you only hurt and upset your own fans

1) Wipeout isn't a car game,  and 2) it's quite difficult to play actually.

Oh if you want a bit of fun and a challenge for a SEGA racing game  beat this lap time on SEGA RALLY with a non modded car.  I bet you can't
