Hey, I prefer classic controllers too, I even build my own Arcade sticks!
I just think it's funny that everyone cries foul when Microsoft tries something new with Kinect. Analogue controls, moving arcade cabinets and even D-Pads were new and strange at one point too after all.
I was saying that if Kinect has 'nothing to do with gaming' then can you extend that to say that Yu Suzuki's moving arcade cabinet for Afterburner had 'nothing to do with gaming'? What about making Virtua Fighter in 3D rather than 2D? Are they just 'gimmicks' to fool people as well?
The world record holder in Afterburner high-scores says that using a non-moving cabinet is preferrable for high-scores, so clearly the moving cabinet is a casual gimmick made only to fool idiots who aren't REAL gamers (like Australians) into wasting their money on a sub-standard gaming experience. Right?
Is Kinect going to set the world on fire and become the new standard? Probably not, but there will probably be some cool ideas and concepts to come of it. I know Child of Eden looks like a unique experience at least. Fighters Uncaged is poorly executed, but being able to play a fighting game with full body controls is just a really great idea, and hopefully they can build on it to make something even better.
As for stifling Rare's creativity... they are running a business after all, if their recent games haven't been performing to Microsoft's standards it's not like I expect them to throw money and creative freedom to them.
Anyway, I'm just playing Devil's Avocado. I own a Kinect, but only because I got a killer deal for it and theres some games on the horizon I would like to try out. At the moment there's not a lot that's really blowing my skirt up for the system and I hope that theres some better things down the pipeline.
