What about Propeller Arena?
« on: December 24, 2010, 06:32:03 pm »
Everyone talks about which Dreamcast games that they want to see on 360/PS3.  Why not Propeller Arena?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Propeller_Arena

The game went gold but was never released because one stage had sky scrapers you could fly into and 9/11 just happened.  The game was done and got leaked in 2004.  I played it on my DC and it's entirely complete.  However ten years have passed so that 'Anything that vaguely looks like 9/11 needs to be erased' mentality is gone, the game is done, it's made by AM-2 and it's unreleased.

You'd think that Sega could even capitalize on the 'A Dreamcast game that you've never played!' angle.  It's multiplayer element is even ideal to be utalized by XBL and PSN.

Every time I see someone make a list of DC games that they'd love to see re-released, no one ever says Propeller Arena and I say 'Why not?'

I thought it was pretty cool actually.  I had played it with friends, put the DC on a data projector with a VGA adaptor and scrounged up 4 controllers.  It was pretty good gameplay and had that AM2 polish

The next game that should be ported should be Shenmue 1, and 2, than we should get notice of SHenmue 3 in production.

Propeller Arena would make a solid franchise as is.

Whether it is on the Digital Download Dreamcast Service or a new Arcade game it has merit, and I would love to see the franchise resumed, while we're at it 18 Wheeler (/king of route 66) and Beach Spikers are all solid Am2 franchises.

Beacher Spikers especially I thought it would be a Virtua Tennis clone but the game is quite different.

Propeller Arena is not as outstanding as a few of AM2's other Dreamcast releases (though that still says a lot for the game), but I really think this kind of game is the perfect kind for the Xbox Live Arcade. I think it should get another chance, for sure.
