Decide my Dreamcast's Fate!
« on: February 14, 2010, 08:45:45 pm »
Okay, so it's just the empty shell of a Dreamcast.

Basically, I had a sweet clear plastic Dreamcast shell with fried innards (never play PSO during a lightening storm, kids). I bought a used Dreamcast for $15 and swapped out the insides, leaving me with a smokin' sweet clear Dreamcast and a discarded plain Dreamcast shell.

What should I do with it? Post suggestions here! Whichever suggestion(s) I like best will be done and posted here in photo/video form.

ps- no destruction suggestions, I'm not taking a sledgehammer to the poor thing.

I think we all know the only thing you can do with it.

Buy the parts necessary to make it a Transformer. Bonus points if it transforms into another SEGA console.

Make a custom electric guitar to play all that kickass music from Sega games!

Tissue dispenser? It could probably fit one of those boxless tissue bags in it.

Okay I got two ideas that I like and would personally like to do, had I an empty Dreamcast shell.

1) Make it into an Arcade Stick. Not quite sure how structurally sound it is, and how much space you have, but it would be awesome.
I was hoping to find a pic of someone who had done similar, but this is the closest I have

You could even make it so the Start button was the power button etc.

2) Buy a second hand Saturn/MegaDrive/Master System etc and put the electronics from another Console inside the Dreamcast shell. That way, you could have a Sega Saturn disguised as a Dreamcast, or a Mega Drive disguised as a dreamcast. With the Mega-Drive you could make it so you need to open the disc tray to put in the cartridge! A sega Saturn would probably work the same way. Not sure how hard that would be, but I imagine it could work well, and if you managed to pull the DC guts out, you could probably swing it.

Try to put a PS2 in there and pretend Yakuza was never released on that system.

The is basically word for word what happened to my first Dreamcast!

I still have it, couldnt bring myself to throw it away!:afroman:

This is a winner.

Looking back, I'm amazed that despite having fried my Dreamcast and being a poor high school student, I bought a new Dreamcast within the week. A PSO addiction can be a very strong thing. Sadly, I had to restart my character who was a level 20 at the time of death.

Thus far, sticking another system inside it looks to be my favorite option. Tissue box is a runner up. I have the FireCore Genesis from Sega Nerds, but don't really want to mess it up. Perhaps it's small enough to fit inside without having to take it apart. I'll give it a try tonight! :)

Oh snap. A Dreamsaturn! Make it happen! But isn't the saturn's motherboard like nearly twice the size of a dreamcast's?

I'd love for a DreamSaturn, but I'm far from a techie (I can, however, make an awesome sock puppet). A DreamDrive (or MegaCast) is possibly doable, however :)

Hmm, I just remembered, I still have my first Saturn with a shot laser in my room wrapped in a platic bag... Maybe I should try something similar. I would hate to ruin it, but then again, what else would I do with a dead Saturn?
