Haven't played much of Boxcelios actually. Will go back and try again at some point though. I did get a 73% completion rating this time though.

Yakuza 4 became my favourite in the series when you got to control Kazuma, but it was still great even before we controlled the Dragon of Dojima, spoilers heavy so don't check this post Sanus;

[spoiler:ue82x07r]- The boat chase was awesome, infact Tanimura's ending was a great way to finish his chapter, soap opera for BROS indeed, still, that boat gameplay could have been used in a minigame I felt, oh well, maybe one for the future!

- All the QTE finishers were brilliant I thought, my favourite though is probably Kazuma vs Akiyama and Tanimura

- Speaking of that, I absolutely loved it that Kazuma remains unbeaten in the game even after the fight with Saejima, usually in games with new characters the power of the central character is dumb downed, but not with Kiryu. The build up to the Akiyama and Tanimura fight was fantastic too and I loved the freeze frame

- Speaking of freeze frames, MadeManG was right, the final boss battles all had a competition for most awesome freeze frames in the history of video games

- The stages were all brillant, it starts slow with Akiyama, then bursts into complete action for Saejima and his prison break, Tanimura has an awesome docks level and battle on the streets but Kazuma again tops it, going through the whole of Kamurocho Hills and a boss rush at the top? Amazing

- I could go on but I'll just finish with it's my game of the year for now, can only see Batman topping it[/spoiler:ue82x07r]

I may have more thoughts later on as they come back to me.

The clear data system is the first thing I've found about this game that I hate. I can't believe how poorly it's been implemented to be honest.

I used my clear data to try a premium adventure mode game, and then promptly found out that saving this overwrites my clear data and the game then acts like I never finished the game!

This not only means that if I didn't have a backup save from right at the end, I would be fucked, but also means that Premium Adventure mode is entirely pointless, since you could go into it and finish all the side missions etc and still never be able to use the rewards from them, because you cant continue a New Game + from Premium adventure. SO unless you do EVERYTHING in the original play through you can't use the rewards.

Dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb.
Lucky I saved right at the end so I can now go back to the single player game and finish all the stuff before starting Premium New Game.

That happened to me in Yakuza 3, so I quit after beating the game.  I had planned to go through and finish my side-missions, but I picked the wrong option or something, and my stuff was gone.

Speak to Date at New Serena, he carries your stuff over to a new game. He gives you a warning beforehand and everything.

The game does still know you've completed the game though, it just so happens that the way to set up new game + is a different method from the previous Yakuza games.

You have to answer the question after the credits correctly, I was confused by that part too.

Ah, I just tried this now! Nagoshi, you are redeemed. Yakuza is now flawless.

As I expected via his Twitter account, Mr. Croshaw has made a (mixed from the sound of it) review of Yakuza 4:

It was a pretty entertaining review. Sounds like he actually enjoyed it. I was pretty surprised he didn't rag on the aged graphics at all.

Game is amazing, holy shit. Seriously, fuck the haters. This is one of the best RPGs I have ever played.

I will post a simple and to the point version of my thoughts on the series.

Story wise:
Yakuza 4>Yakuza 1>Yakuza 2>Yakuza 3

Gameplay wise:
Yakuza 4>Yakuza 2>Yakuza 3>>>>>>>>>>>>>Yakuza 1

Music wise:
Yakuza 3>Yakuza 1>Yakuza 4>Yakuza 2

The gameplay, story and characters are amazing and all, but I cannot believe how hard I smiled with some of the cameo songs I heard in there. Over a dozen Takenobu songs, Phantasy Star, Jet Set Radio Future, Virtua Fighter, Super Monkey Ball, Clockwork Knight, too much to post...

But what the Hell were they thinking with the choices for the Sonic Team game songs? Ungravitfy? Knight of the Wind? Sonic Rush music? Billy Hatcher? Dreams of an Absolution?!?!?! These are literally all the worst choices they could have picked.

Have you fought Akiyama's second boss? Just one of many of SEGA breaking copyright infringement laws!

Also thought Yakuza 4 had better music than Yakuza 1 if I had to pick a soundtrack I prefer, but otherwise yes, best in the series for me.

How far are you into the game?
