I get what STORM's saying about Skies of Arcadia's battle system. As much as I enjoyed the game, the battle system never really stuck out as all that special to me. I did enjoy the SP moves though.
Again I'll state that I really enjoyed the game overall, just for the record.

As far as SEGA games that I've never really been able to get into. Probably the original Space Harrier and Afterburner games. I really enjoy the newer takes (Planet Harriers and Afterburner Climax), but I always found the older ones don't really do it for me.

Well, I have Japanese blood, but Ryan is English, and hates Golden Axe.

It automatically shows that Ryan has tastes worsier than mine.

I doubt Creative Assembly could do a better action game than Golden Axe ;p (or Bayonetta, or Kunoichi) ;pp

It's interesting to see how people here are really choosing some titles I would've never expected as least favorites. Like before I can't say that there is a SEGA game/series I've disliked because every SEGA game I've played I had a good ol' time.

Since we keep mentioning Golden Axe, I have a question. Has anyone played Golden Axe Warrior for the Sega Master System? It takes the Legend of Zelda gameplay and kinda does it's own version of it. It's great fun and very challenging.

I can understand the dislike of Golden Axe, though Ryan you misinterpreted mine and Aki's feelings for it, we were not mad at you for disliking it, but HOW you were saying it was bad annoyed us. Your point was that you just played Streets of Rage first, which is silly as you should be able to compare it separately being how much older it is. I used to dislike it too, but now it is one of my favorite SEGA IPs in a lot of ways.

What I love about Golden Axe is how deep it is on so many levels. The detail was stunning, the world was very creative, the way weapons worked was realistic with the use of everything from the tip, middle and hilt of the weapons, the characters are very diverse and creative (especially for the time), the setting is very dark but at the end of it all you find out it is a silly arcade game that some kids were playing - Always makes me smile.

I think conceptually that Golden Axe would be blowing minds if it came out now. The way how you must search the lands for giant beasts to cross rivers and gorges to reach the Death=Adder, or how he was formed by a group of demonic snakes. Even something like just setting up camp when the sun drops would just be so awesome.

Anyone who is not really a fan of the series should check out Golden Axe: The Revenge of Death=Adder on MAME. I guarantee you will be into that if you liked Streets of Rage in comparison. It is the true sequel.

---

As for a major SEGA series I do not like?

I do not like the way Valkyria Chronicles is progressing and I absolutely hate Jet Set Radio. I like the music and general style, but not the gameplay, level design or how "Slow" and strange the game gets so much. Strange, because I really like the sequel a lot. It especially bugs me when people think Jet Set Radio stuff is basically what all SEGA games should be like.

I could give my reasons and stuff, but I do not think it matters much. Especially after how crazy Storm's views on Skies of Arcadia are. Bad graphics? LOLWUT

You hated JSR? I don't remember you ever telling me that, but I'm sure you must have in the past. I'm surprised at that one to be honest. Interesting that you liked JSRF by comparison too.

I just do not get why people like Jet Set Radio at all, and I have beaten it three times to try and force it onto me, but still nothing. I have problems with almost everything in the game, even little things like having trouble getting off of rails pisses me off beyond belief. Most of Jet Set Radio Future felt better to me, like in that example if you clicked the left stick in, you got off of the rail. It was also open world, so while there were things that required timing and such, you still could do it how you wanted to. It was also pretty fun to mess around and not have to worry about your score.

Valkyria I can understand why people like, but I really especially hate the way the series is progressing. Weird annoying Japanese shit, Sakura Taisen never got this strange and awkward.

Otherwise I can usually see what people like about certain games. It took me awhile to "Get" stuff like NiGHTS into Dreams, but once I did, I loved it. Jet Set Radio I liked initially but has annoyed me more and more every time I tried to play it again. I have nothing against people who like it, just people who want ALL of SEGA's games to be like it.

Bayonetta; I don't think we can be friends anymore.

NiGHTS; NiGHTS 2 is a collossal piece of horse-shit. The first game is where it's at. That's like saying you don't like Sonic the Hedgehog because you only played Sonic 2006.

Bayonetta: Bleh. Overrated combat system, annoying characters, long load times, irritating music. Nah thanks.  8-)

Nights 2; lol remember everyone bashing me at Sega.com for disliking it? People may now love to hate Nights 2 but lol I thought that from the start.

I do agree though that you're probably right, I'm sure the 1st game is better.

Go over to GoNintendo and tell them you think Ocarina of Time is overrated, say that you still like it but that it is overrated. You think this is anything? You will likely get a flat out ban over there.

Wow, the admins there actually do that? Then again, I don't post much there, I mostly just go there for the news.

I know people in the IRC who have received "flamebait" warnings for saying the lesser Nintendo titles are overrated, I don't know anybody who said OOT was overrated publicly, but if a thread like this was made and the first post was "I think OOT is overrated", it'd likely get locked with a very high potential for the person who posted it getting a kick to the curbside.

I guess what I can walk away from this thread with though is SEGA gamers are a lot more individualistic than Nintendo gamers, Nintendo fans have a tendency to like all the same games. Still I think people saying Skies of Arcadia and some of the other games mentioned are bad games are off-base, they are well crafted titles even if they don't particularly like them. I hate RTS games, Total War is still well put together.

Nintendo fans take that shit seriously. I once told one that I thought Golden Eye was boring, never got into. I also wasn't too much into OOT. Actually I hated the N64 era. I sold my N64 (I got one for 40 dollars in its hay day) because I never played it. With it I got some imported Saturn and PSone games.
