Basically the usual thing happened. SEGA is partnered with some great people but not showing enough support and cooporation in the end. Developers go to nintendo.

This has happened before with a studio like camelot who used to make the shining franchise and now does the Golden sun series. Naoto Oshima who went from sonic to Yoshi games etc.

Even though all this, I don't mind it. This isn't the only thing that got me sold on the WII U during the press conference today. I am sold period.

The only thing that sucks is money though

I still see SEGA's logo in the promo video.

I don't see how this is bad news at all. I mean really.... Bayonetta 2 actually exists!

Nintendo being involved, and showing it off at this event can only be more positive indicators that it won't get cancelled somewhere along the road.
All good stuff.

To think at all the grief I had when saying SEGA should have spent the money on getting it own Teams into shape and letting them make their own Action games rather than let the likes of Platinum do it for them.

Play Magazine is tweeting that they were once shown a concept for a Bayonetta 2 cover but at that time it was "from a different company and not on Wii U."

The truth; Sega cancelled the project and Nintendo picked it up. Bayonetta fans should be down on their knees ******* Nintendo at this very moment, lol.

Kellie from Sega has shed some light on this.

I see there's some confusion, so let me clarify! Bayonetta 2 is being developed by Platinum Games and published by Nintendo. SEGA is working with both as an advisor to the project.

(When asked if the game will still have SEGA references)
Quote
Because the game is being published by Nintendo, I don't have any more information on it.

Quote
Yes. Thread title updated to reflect Platinum Games as the developer. As I mentioned before, SEGA is involved as an advisor to the project, but we are neither publishing nor developing the game.

Okay friends, I've calmed (a little).

Bayonetta 2, yay!

--

Anyway, to explain myself after all my Twitter bitching:

When I heard the announcement, it was one part "FUCK YES!", one part "FUCK NO!".

I love Bayonetta, I am tepid on the Wii U. Wii U itself disappoints me in terms of hardware and in terms of concept. It's just Wii 2.0! It's going to be outdated in a few years!

What I was waiting for was a game that excites me in terms of the hardware, something that utilizes the pad thingy in an exciting way. But instead I get Bayonetta 2.

Bayonetta 2 is an amazing announcement, but it just reeks of "you want this sequel you want so badly? Buy our console, because it's an exclusive! Muahaha!" Bayonetta 2 excites me, yes, but it doesn't change my opinion on the Wii U at all. Wii U is essentially a current gen machine, the specs prove it, so really Bayonetta 2 COULD be released on 360 and PS3... but it's not. And it's not due to hardware limitations or because the game was meant to be played with motion controls, but because Nintendo were sneaky mother fuckers and got it as an exclusive.

An ingenious move, an amazingly smart move, but still a shit move for those who love the series, have a 360 or PS3 and never wanted their reason for buying a Wii U to be because they begrudgingly had to buy it in order to play an exclusive that they were jonesing for for years.

So that's my current attitude: Very excited to hear that there is a Bayonetta 2.
Angry that my reason to want a Wii U is not for innovation or hardware reasons, but because of a single exclusive. Less of a "I need a Wii U because the console looks awesome" and more of a "I need a Wii U if I want to play Bayonetta 2."

Wii U isn't really about motion controls all that much anyway, it's about the screen in the controller.

I'm glad you get me.

I don't hate Nintendo, I don't hate the Wii U... but I really would love to see them wow me with something that justifies the hardware.

Like I said, as is they're using exclusive software tactics to lure people over rather than making the hardware and the gimmicks the system sellers. But I guess that's their problem: the hardware isn't all that exciting power wise and the gimmicks are pretty lame.

We don't even know when the game is releasing, so we very well might not see it til late 2013/early 2014. I wonder if, by that point, Wii U won't be hurting or getting price cuts or if the graphics will look dated compared to the next gen machines.

God damn it, I don't want a Wii-U...

Sega still owns the IP, I take it?

Yeah, I really think it's: Nintendo is paying, PG is developing, SEGA is "advising" aka they get their name on the box because they own the IP.

So it's essentially a Nintendo+PG game. I really do think SEGA is not actually doing anything. Why would they need to? PG knows how to develop games, Nintendo publishes. I think SEGA advising is a polite way to say that they own the IP and will have their name on the box.

Doubt we'll see SEGA references this time out. Maybe Bayonetta will break bricks with her head and they'll name drop Zelda?

If you have to be mad at someone Barry, be mad at sega.  This is clearly a title that Nintendo salvaged from the brink of death.  At this point sega might as well sell the ip to someone else since they refuse to contribute anything development wise

Man seeing Monster Hunter called out as a wii launch title makes me think sega dropped the ball by not developing PSO2 for wii as well.  The controller is just screaming for it.  I mean, I guess as far as wiiu goes sega dropped the ball completely.  They're all but absent from the launch line up.  Feels strange not to have a new monkey ball at least.

Sega's almost absent from anything except an iPhone these days. It's truly depressing.

Yeah but isn't that how it's usually done.....? Using games to sell hardware?

As far as Wii U, the PS4/720 will likely not be revealed until next E3, which means they probably won't be released until 2014 (2013 the earliest) so Wii U has plenty of time to get a jump, honestly.

And if the next Xbox is another Kinect-focused machine, I have no interest. At least the Wii U Gamepad is an actual controller.

"The project was dead"
"Bayo 2 was canceled !1!"
"Nintendo salvaged the game!1!"

Their source? "Rumors".
