Police Officer Smith is an adventure game developed by Arnold and Rockin-B for the 2007 C4 Sega Saturn homebrew competition. As with most Saturn homebrew, it's very rough and incomplete. Nevertheless, POS is quite impressive from a technical standpoint. Right off the bat, you'll notice it runs at the Saturn's highest resolution. While the graphics aren't extraordinary, they do have a crisp, clean look. Rather than CD audio, the game's music is FM synthesized. Most remarkably, it utilizes both of the system's CPUs, a feat rarely seen in even officially licensed third party Saturn titles.

Police Officer Smith can be run on actual Saturn hardware or emulated through SSF or Yabause. If you got a few minutes to spare, I'd say it's worth toying around with. You can grab a copy at the link below:

I like it but it seems a little slow, for something that is rather minimalist. In the moments before the logo appears, maybe a few clips of games? Or artful glimpses of the Saturn console and controllers? Just my 2 cents.

It's supposed to mimic a bios boot screen, so the intent was to keep it fairly simple. I do sorta like your idea though. I could add probably four or five rows of gameplay footage scrolling horizontally across the screen. Row 1 from left to right, Row 2 from right to left, Row 3 from left to right, etc. They'd fade out right before the logo showed up.

Might be tricky to pull off for a novice video editor like me, but I'll see if I can't figure it out. Just don't expect to see it implemented anytime soon, lol.

Edit: Better yet, maybe I could have opaque gameplay footage wooshing in a the screen. That might be easier to pull off too.

An excellent but little known series, the Keio Flying Squadron games span multiple genres and represented Victor's most ambitious push to establish an enduring franchise. Unfortunately, the first two of these titles—Keio Flying Squadron and Keio Flying Squadron 2—were exclusives on failed consoles. While the third did appear on the wildly successful Playstation, it was little more than a digital board game and never saw an international release. It's a shame as these are all fantastics works, brimming with personality and over-the-top Japanese madness. If only more people had had the chance to experience them, maybe we'd still be playing Keio games today.

FUN FACT: Rami, the game's protaganist, dresses in a bunny girl outfit reminiscent of the one worn by the heroine in Daicon IV's opening animation. The short film, a wacky celebration of otaku culture, was produced by Daicon Film for the 1983 Nihon SF Taikai convention. Daicon Film would later go on to form the animation studio Gainax.

During the martial arts tournament, you have a chance of facing either "God Fearing" Cardinal Xavier or "Kabuki Fighter" Benkei Musashibou. In my main playthrough, I ended up fighting Xavier, but here's the interview and battle with Benkei.

As far as platformers go, Keio 2 has a fairly low-scoring point system. I suppose the idea was to keep it simple since the points you earn are put towards unlocking bonus artwork. Do well and you'll unlock some cool pictures. Do poorly and you'll unlock useful tips. Here's the gallery as it appears when fully unlocked.

Sound Qube is a 1998 puzzle game developed by Media Entertainment for the Sega Saturn. As the name implies, the gimmick here is sound. To clear each stage, the player must listen to, identify, and eliminate pieces of the puzzle. It's really quite fun!

***DISCLAIMER*** While I've censored all the naughty bits, this still probably don't want to watch this video at work, around young children, etc.

Virtua Photo Studio is a 1996 adult title developed by Transpegasus Limited for the Sega Saturn. The game features three models whom the player must photograph. The more risque the photo, the better. Occassionally one of the girls will grow apprehensive and you'll have to coax her back into taking part in the shoot.

WEIRD: The game makes use of Sega's signature "Virtua" brand name. it's also published by Acclaim of all companies.

Dark Hunter is a 1997 educational adventure game developed by Koei for the Sega Saturn. Part of creator Kou Shibusawa's "English Dreams" series, Dark Hunter strives to aid in the English learning process by strengthening vocabulary and other language skills through an interactive story infused with elements of science fiction and horror. The game is playable using any combination of written and/or spoken English or Japanese.

FUN FACT: When playing in English, the three main characters--Mariko Kayano, Ran Mashimo, and Cher Mulligan--are voiced by Alison Lester, Michael G., and Kimberly Forsythe respectively. The trio are better known for their roles as Lisa Farenheights, Dracula, and Maria Renard in Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.

Making my game spirit, flare up watching these videos. Like Bison, on looking, Zangief. I think you should take some of them down, before everybody starts playing Sega Saturn.

Any games by the "Fiend Hunter" team "Right Stuff". This is my favorite, PCE game right now. I can't get enough of it, and because I know the game is short, I try not to push it. It is basically like "Princess Crown", but obvious sprite size difference, and only one fiend per area.

The photo studio, again shows how respected Audiovisual models, are in Japan. Next stop for Momo-i ( the newest sensation for Namco ), if she fails. In the west we just divide everything, and put them into catergory. I would take down the video, or stick to the clothing portion.

Dark Hunter 2 looks, pretty decent, maybe it could use the mouse, attachment. "Are you thinking about him". Ha ha ha, they made the characters tall, and detailed like westerners.

Please tell me that is not the actual line, and that is just some "Samurai Pizza catting" around with the game itself? Please tell me, it was some cultural joke, at all, please tell me that is not a true translation. I mean seriously, why they had to do this. Tell me it is just some damn American, or Common Wealth person, who just had to include those lines.  I am talking about Keio.

The intro is okay, It is the font that is bothering me. I would do the same intro, but have the typelogo, do that zoom, with ghost. Like where you see multiple copies of the title, on the screen appears, from afar, but not perfect. Or Zoom in from the front making it smaller then bigger.
But I would do it, simple, and have zoom from the back. The fade-in effect is also nice, but I miss the double effect.

I am working on my own project as well, I wish I could program, for the Saturn, I wish I could program period. But I have to settle for alternatives.

Sonic Jump is a 2005 game for mobile devices, ported by FacundoARG to the Sega Saturn. As with most Saturn homebrew, the Sonic Jump is rather raw and unfinished. The further you progress, the more broken it becomes. Still, this is a nice contribution to the otherwise dead Saturn homebrew scene.

I did not know Keio's Flying Squadron for Saturn is a sequel.

There are many interesting titles in here.

I gave up buying games for the Saturn. I was always discovering rare games for it and I had to choose: either I buy new games for the new consoles or I keep building a retro collection. So I chose the first option hehe...

I'm of the opposite mind. I really don't care much for the direction gaming has gone in. Every now and then, I'll see something that intrigues me, but I rarely buy on release and try to avoid physical copies. Just don't see any point to collecting 'em. Games today get all sorts of patches, fixes, and DLC. Pop that physical disc in 10 years from now when the servers are gone, and you could be left playing an unoptimized/buggy, incomplete mess.
