I think its funny that people are so reserve on using Unreal 4 to create Virtua Fighter 6, if anything, a engine like Unreal 4 would make the process of creating a one off 3D fighting game like Virtua Fighter 6 possible with a decent budget. It made sense in the 90's for SEGA to create a 3D engine fighting game, because it was the next logical step. Street Fighter II dominated and fighting games where absurdly popular, SEGA put all their money into production of their 3D fighting game.
Then they used that texture engine and stuff to create a ton of fighting games around the same time. They got their money's worth for sure. Sadly gaming isn't like that anymore. You can't create a specific engine for 1 fighting game. I know "Make more fighting games", yeah, that's an amazing dream right there. SEGA can't even get VF5 to sell like it used to.
It would be a lot cheaper to use Unreal 4 as a base and have the creators make tools to create the fighting engine. There still needs to be a method to their madness. Unreal 4 also makes porting to consoles, PC super easier and more cost friendly.
Like they said, Unreal has come a long, long way from Unreal 3.
