Well that's even more confusing. All this time I thought they were the same. But if they were side by side does that mean shared continuity?

According to the series creator (Ryuichi) and also the story in Monster Boy and Cursed Kingdom : yes, same continuity (but separated by centuries I think).
These two pics which supports the claim could fall into spoiler category,
but since the game has been released more than one year I think it's okay if I post these :

"I think I was inspired by Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap and Monster Boy in a big way. The passion of (Dragon’s Trap remaster director) Omar Cornut, (its artist) Ben Fiquet, (Cursed Kingdom director) Fabien Demeulenaere and others influenced me with their passion.
Since they had proven the potential of the Wonder Boy series, I wanted to respond to that.

Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World hitting Western PS4 & Switch May 28, PC on June 29

It looks like the Monster World IV remake, Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World, is set to launch both physically and digitally on PS4 and Nintendo Switch on May 28th in the West (North America, Europe and Australia).
PC gamers will have to wait until June 29th to get their hands on it.
