Yeah, they're wrapping up right now so I guess it's the end ... for this project.
There's another fan project from another team, 2D fighting game though, "Sega vs. Capcom: Fighting Mega Stars Genesis", and they're still safe right now since they really keep it low.

This is M.U.G.E.N though, so it's likely to be safe.
For 27 years since July 17, 1999, no game companies could ever do anything about M.U.G.E.N, not even Nintendo.
Why? Because M.U.G.E.N are like puzzles.
The launcher, the characters, the stages, the music, the themed title, and select screen are separated.
Players got to download them separately and combined them into one game to play.

That's cool and all, but MUGEN itself still looks rather dated. Which, granted, some may like that as an aesthetic. But in comparison to Street Fighter 6, Mortal Kombat 1 or Marvel Tokon, fans of MUGEN means they can't have fighting games that quality, while still being highly customisable and protected from corporates.

I just hope 4CYDE would still make use of what its salvageable of Sega vs Capcom, and I don't mean like when My Little Pony: Fighting is Magic just replaced everything other than the gameplay to make Them's Fightin' Herds, I mean at least make a Sega fan game out of it.

But it sounds like 4CYDE are abandoning fan games for original projects, which feels like, other than "experience" and "exposure", a waste of Sega All-Stars content and interest.

Well, what do you expect for engine that was released 27 years ago?
At that time the fans want is just what if Street Fighter characters could fight against Mortal Kombat or Guilty Gears characters or any character that hasn't been in fighting games?
And there are already thousands characters, stages, and music we can use (if we knew where to look of course) and even edit them ourselves for balancing or changing the move inputs.
It's never about graphic, it's about gameplay.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZ2qTaMbWf0

M.U.G.E.N veterans like Walruslui and Kamekaze helped 4CYDE Studios to make SEGA vs. Capcom: the Next Level btw.

But for those who wanted good graphic, there's also another new fighting engine : IKEMEN GO.
Unlike M.U.G.E.N builds which lack native online multiplayer, IKEMEN Go features built-in rollback functionality for smooth online matches.
It also supports true 3D stages, stage zooming, WebM video intros, dynamic resizing, and even Android support.
And the best thing of it, M.U.G.E.N files and content can be played in Ikemen GO, as the engine is designed for backwards compatibility with M.U.G.E.N.
4CYDE Studios uses this IKEMEN GO btw for SEGA vs. Capcom: the Next Level.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dv0aC8CKFpk

For full 3D fighting, there's also Infinite Versus which is built as a 3D fighting game engine rather than a traditional 2D one.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1FGBovSCq4s

There's still risk that SEGA's gonna send C&D if they continue with the project.
Just because they didn't do that in the past doesn't mean they won't do that in the future. They have the right to do that after all.
The thing with 4CYDE Studios is they're like Ikarus, they're close to the sun.
I mean ... the game got promoted by Maximilian Dood, a famous FGC influencer who's close to CAPCOM.
Other FGC influencers have reminded the developer that "flying under the radar" is usually safer than heavily marketing a project. So many Megaman fan games are still safe from CAPCOM because they kept low.

W-wait, if SvC:TNL was built on IKEMEN GO, why did it get a c&D if it would've not if it was made on MUGEN?

I see, if, if I wanted to make, say, a Resident Evil fan game (not that I intend to), I'm better of releasing it in a finished state than just beta's and demos? Which would make sense given a C&D isn't really a legal threat, more of a stern request that may lead to legal threats. If I made a Resident Evil fan game and presented the whole finish thing online, then if I get a C&D telling me to take it down, the very least there will likely still be copies of the full game lingering on the internet.

Mmh~ them thighs!

There are also nude version of almost female fighters in M.U.G.E.N.
I used to download them too, but in the end never played with them since at that time I was still living in my parents' house and the PC was in the main room.

W-wait, if SvC:TNL was built on IKEMEN GO, why did it get a c&D if it would've not if it was made on MUGEN?

Because they compiled all the characters into one game that people could play right away.
I know the purpose to make it easy for players who are not familiar with M.U.G.E.N or IKEMEN GO but as you know it came with a cost.
It's like if you make a hack for Mario or Sonic game from existing roms.
We usually share the IPS file (which could be patched into the existing rom) but not share the already patched rom.

It looks a bit slow and stiff, but still impressive.

It's an old video, may be it's better now but I don't know since I'm not following the progress.

The thing with making fan games is ... you wanted to see the reaction of your fans too.
It encourage you to spend more time to finish it since it's time consuming and a non-paid job too.
That's why they share their betas and alphas to check the interest.
If there's not enough positive reaction, they could stop the project and waste no more time in it.

True... but also depends on the audience.

Lets say I attempted to remake Rise of Nightmares for VR, and in doing so, no one cares, or the very least a few people care, but not that much.
I could still do it for myself though. But in releasing videos or demos to gauge for meagre reactions, I may still get C&D.

Porn does make people ... creative.

I'm not quite sure I understand.

Well, to be short though it's an oversimplify: don't share it as an EXE file.

I wouldn't mind 2D fighting games if they had high-definition graphics instead of pixels.

Taste differ, I guess. I grew up when game graphic was still like this

so I don't mind pixel as long as the game is fun.
And may be that's why I don't mind simple graphic on Sonic Pico Park too.

Rise of Nightmares franchise belongs to who now? If it's SEGA's then most likely it's safe. There are tons of SEGA fan games that's safe. Unless your demos reached a million downloads which I'm gonna doubt if it's Rise of Nightmares.

And perverted!
"Creverted"? "Pereative"? Whichever gives you a brain-boner.
Well, to be short though it's an oversimplify: don't share it as an EXE file.

I figured we're at least round the same age, so we still share some taste in games.

I'm just using RoN as an example. It does belong to Sega, but I know that even Sega may not be chill when it comes to fan-content other than Sonic, so I may still be chanced in getting a C&D over a more obscure Sega game.
