Yeah but with games like Iron-Man, Golden Axe: Beast Riders and Sonic '06 being the first Sega games after the merger, it shows a dip in quality of games afterwards for that era.

Iron Man was a success though. The follow ups (Incredible Hulk, Thor, and Captain America) sadly weren't.
There were also Phantasy Star Universe, Yakuza 1-2, After Burner Climax, Dinosaur King, and Outrun 2 which were also successes.

If those games came out after the merger, why did Golden Axe and Sonic get the short end? Especially Sonic, Sega's mascot franchise. Sonic '06 started a long negative reputation for Sonic.

We know they rushed the release to coincide with Sonic's 15th anniversary during the holiday season, causing developers to ignore quality assurance bug reports and ship an unfinished product, but that's not the first time thing like that's happened. Sonic X-Treme was also forced to be released as a Sonic's 5th anniversary title but the developer gave up  around a year before release. Thankfully Traveler's Tales was working Sonic 3D Blast for Mega Drive Genesis so SEGA commissioned  Traveler's Tales to create a Saturn version too on short notice to replace X-Treme.
And beside they learned the lesson. Sonic game now doesn't have to be released in the exact year of the anniversary now.

I suppose Sonic '06 was too hyped at the time for them to just give up like they did with X-Treme.
