Not Sonic, but other SEGA's franchise had a crossover with Smurfs before which is ...  Angry Birds.
Angry Birds Friends X The Smurfs event which's The "Smurfs Tournament" was a week-long and happened in 2021.
Since Sonic Rumble was marketed by Rovio, I guess it made the licensing process much easier and quicker.
