Maybe perhaps Sega just didn't know what to do with Alex Kidd.
From what I recall, the rights Sega had to a Dragonball game expired half-way through development of it. And with Mario rearing Nintendo, they needed a mascot to compete, so they refurbished the Dragonball game into Alex Kidd.

Kinda like Nintendo then. They failed to get Popeye license in time so they changed Popeye into Mario, Olive into Pauline, and Bluto into Donkey Kong.

you could always take your kids to arcades.
I often gripe how the arcades in UK are just cheap gambling machines.

I do bring them to arcade centers, but our tastes are just different.
I prefer VS Fighting or beat em up games while they prefer sport-like games like these :

Popeye made Mario just as Goku made Alex Kidd?

Kinda. The difference is the antagonist Donkey Kong is more popular than Mario ... for a while until the Super Mario Bros game came along.

Your kids into sports?

No. May be the flashy lights and catchy music on those machines made them motivated to do so.
I never saw them interested in playing soccer or basketball at home or school. They love to ride a bicycle though.

Was Donkey Kong based after Bluto?

In 5-10 years time, they'll be riding about on speedbikes.

Yes, he was named Donkey Kong — donkey to convey stubborn and kong to imply gorilla.
Just like Bluto.

In 5-10 years time, they'll be riding about on speedbikes.

And 20 years later may be flying bikes. Who knows what future can bring.

A bit of news... Retro-Bit has updated their Sega Collaboration page with a "Coming Soon" link.

Given the past announcement included Dreamcast controllers, which we've yet to see, my guess Retro-Bit will be having Dreamcast controllers soon.

As I mentioned before, I said I sent an email inquiring about the "Dreamcast Pro Controller". I'have a feeling that it would be too late in product development for them accepting suggestions. My ideal Dreamcast Pro Controller would simply be a legacy game controller version of a regular Dreamcast controller.
  • Four action buttons.
  • Start, Select and Home buttons.
  • Two analogue sticks, the left one being as original to the Dreamcast.
  • Two pairs of shoulder buttons.
I need to buy a new legacy controller given my XBox 360 controller is on its last legs. While the Dreamcast controller isn;t as comfortable on the hands as DualShock or XBox controllers, I would be proud to have a Sega Legacy Controller.

So I tried to search on X, I read other than IC chips shortage problem, they're basically has completed.
Shortages of IC chips is the thing that make them to delay the release.
I guess it's already too late.

Oh well, I'm just curious what's Retro-Bit's definition of "Pro Controller" be.

For example is the Sega Saturn a Pro controller because it functions as a legacy control pad and has six buttons in total, or is it a pro controller because it's a standard Sega Saturn controller as a legacy control pad.

I mean, the Sega Saturn controller was styled after the Mega Drive's six-button control pad so it makes sense for the Pro Controller that was styled after the Sega Saturn controller to have the six buttons (C and Z). Though, the fact C and Z are paired with L and R kind of makes it pointless. I mean, I get it that "legacy" game controllers are usually four-button so C and Z extra buttons that Retro-Bit were not entirely sure what to do with. It's why I believe they should've been paired with ZL and ZR instead, or at least have a macro input to allow players to switch the shoulder buttons output with their Z-shoulder variants.
But if the "Dreamcast Pro Controller" will have additional C and Z buttons, I just don't see the point of that at all. The original Dreamcast controller was styled after the Sega Saturn 3D controller, but with C and Z ditched because even Sega figured it was too much. But if the Dreamcast will be getting additional shoulder buttons then those shoulder buttons might as well be labelled C and Z. It would be pointless for a Dreamcast Pro Controller to have C and Z button if they will be paired with shoulder buttons. It's acceptible for the Saturn Pro Controller because the Saturn controller is supposed to be six-button, even though C and Z are paired with shoulder buttons to make it work.

Looking at the blueprints again, Retro-Bit never stated this was going to be a "Dreamcast Pro Controller", it could be how they're going to make their regular Dreamcast controllers. I'm just against C and Z being a standard to it, given the original Dreamcast controllers didn't have C and Z to begin with.

If it was going to be a Pro Controller it would be a downgrade to the Sega Saturn Pro Controller given it does not have legacy controller button-outputs (no secondary shoulder buttons, no second analogue stick etc). but the original Dreamcast controller was a four-button controller, and my Sega-autistic brain really thinks they should keep it as A B X Y than add C and Z to it.

That's depended of what we play most.
If it's for VS Fighting games fans, adding add C and Z to the front is actually God-send addition.

Not just for newer fighting games, most of Capcom VS Fighting retro games (which were released a lot on Saturn and Dreamcast) were designed with three punches buttons and three kick buttons.
Many Capcom fans were mad when Dreamcast's layout were changed from Saturn's.
But as we all know, we can't satisfy everyone.

I'm hoping Retro-Bit's defition of a Pro Controller is the same as Nintendo's definition of a Pro Controller.

Despite Nintendo boasting their innovative motion controllers, they still release a standard "Pro Controller" for each of their consoles since the Wii.

Retro-Bit isn't as big as Nintendo the Giant. Far from that.

They may not be big, but they have one with that Nintendo don't have, a collaboration with Sega that lasted longer than a year and with products that Sega fans appreciate.
