23 Years After It Shut Down, Bomberman On Dreamcast Is Online Once More
Eight-player explosive action lives again!

When the Dreamcast was put out to pasture at the dawn of the 2000s, it predictably meant that one of its key selling points – online play – was disabled as well.
Thankfully, in recent years, we've seen the community step in to take Dreamcast games online once more – and another classic has been added to the list of resurrected titles.
This is thanks to the efforts of modder Flyinghead and "a newcomer to the scene" named Farkus. "This game has been a ..."

I wish they could name it ... to settle the naming difference. Most of my friends called them 'animals' instead of mobians.
But ina  conversation about regular animals and Sonic's kind, wouldn't that be confusing?

He's enjoyed his life as a freelancer now.
He said he didn't want to return to work fully for SEGA and somehow he still worked secretly on a few SEGA projects with different names.
For example he's involved in making music for Super Monkey Ball 3D (2011) with "skankfunk" alias name.
I don't know the reason why he had to use alias names though.
Oh that's good. Even if he was freelanced, he was still with Sega at the time. Being freelance means it's under his terms. That's good.

You can sort of feel that "Sega Saturn era" vibe from these pictures.

It is confusing indeed but the non-anthropomorphic animals are rarely show up in the game anyway (other than flickies of course) so we almost never talked about them.

Yes, may be because it was designed with Saturn in mind. This video said Sonic Adventure was originally began development for the Sega Saturn in 1997 before moving to the Dreamcast.
Sonic Team aimed to create a 3D, story-driven RPG-style Sonic game, but the Saturn’s limited capabilities and impending discontinuation forced the team to move the project to Sega's new Dreamcast hardware.

But they are still there. And what if you were at a furry convention and you wanted to talk about Sonic's kind but not get confused with furries in general?

Dreamcast offered more leg-room for Sonic Adventure. And because of that, it's why I feel Sonic Adventure is a bit of a jack-of-all-trades sort of Sonic game. Something future Sonic games never quite catch ever again.

I don't know. We never have a furry convention here in my country and I don't think I'd be interested to attend one if there's one.

Yeah, I don't know why they change the formula in Sonic Adventure 2, though it's good on its own that they're adding new interesting playable characters.

Then you won;t meet other mobians!

My guess, they wanted to stick with Sonic's "Reach goal ASAP" format that they had since Sonic 1-3K. Saturn's Sonic Adventure would've likely be lacking in a lot of content compared to Dreamcast' Sonic Adventure. Such as sub-games, Twinkle Circuit or platforming puzzles etc. Maybe even no E-102 or Big.

Not interested right now, unless they're willing to share their gold rings with me. I could use one or two to pay my debt.

That made sense. May be they're trying to make SA2 more appealed to international fans who love to go fast.
Japanese fans on the other hand prefer the exploring thing though, that's why Sonic Frontiers was such a hit there while other Sonic games (CrossWorlds and Shadow Generations included) were struggling.
It was the most highly anticipated Sonic game in Japan when the gameplay trailer released, helping it achieve strong sales upon its November 8, 2022 release.

Limited Run Games Reveals Upgraded Sonic x Shadow Statue Prototype

Quote
Limited Run Games shipped the revamped prototype to SEGA for final approval, featuring precise paint with vibrant colors, gleaming gold accents, and a heavier base for stability.
This follows backlash over the original $249.99 Collector's Edition statues from early 2026, which had uneven details and flimsy builds, prompting LRG to halt shipments and promise fixes.
Fans who received the old version can get a free swap, and communities are buzzing with praise for Shadow's refined face alongside some lingering skepticism about minor quirks.

So Sonic Team are trying to appeal to their Japanese fanbase... yet won't bring back the Adventure games which had exploration in them?

It might be the last resort if other plans failed.
Just like former Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada in 2012 said that they would not remake Final Fantasy VII until the development team managed to create a brand-new Final Fantasy game that equaled or exceeded the quality of the original.
