Rune Jade has now been brought back online thanks to Dreamcast Live. This obscure Japan-exclusive online RPG got its internet multiplayer features restored by Sh- wait, wait. Nope. It was just flyinghead who got the new servers on this game up and running by himself this time. Anyway, the game is finally about to fulfill your online multiplayer dungeon crawling itch once again since its servers were shutdown 25 years ago.
Chances are many of you might not be familiar with Rune Jade. You’d be surprised that this game beat Phantasy Star Online to market by a couple of months, making this the first MMORPG on Dreamcast instead of PSO, but its online servers didn’t last as ...

These Annoying Gen AI Adverts For Retro Consoles Are Fooling A Lot Of People

Quote
If you've been anywhere near retro gaming social media circles over the past weekend, you'll almost certainly have seen some Japanese adverts for various vintage consoles featuring scantily-clad ladies.
As you can imagine, these "lost" promotional images have triggered a pretty big online response, with many people assuming they are legitimate historical items which show just how "great" everything was a few decades ago – which, of course, they're not.
These fake adverts are yet another dubious "benefit" we've been blessed with thanks to the arrival of Generative AI, and are no more real than the Easter Bunny. That hasn't stopped thousands of ...

SEGA Cancels 'Super Game' Initiative Announced in 2021

Quote
SEGA announced the cancellation of its 'Super Game' initiative, originally planned as an online AAA global hit involving multiple games with a reported $800 million budget.
SEGA reallocated over 100 staff from Games as a Service projects to standard full game development, while revival titles like Jet Set Radio, Streets of Rage Revolution, Golden Axe, Virtua Fighter, Persona 4 Revival, Alien Isolation 2, and Crazy Taxi remain active.

It might be the last resort if other plans failed.
Just like former Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada in 2012 said that they would not remake Final Fantasy VII until the development team managed to create a brand-new Final Fantasy game that equaled or exceeded the quality of the original.

But didn't they already remake Final Fantasy VII? Granted not the original gameplay as before, but still a remake.

I didn't know of this "Super Game" initative, so no loss if I didn't know. But sounded like Sega really wanted a foot in the AAA-market but couldn't afford it. Though, isn't Yakuza their usual triple-A listers?

Yes, that was a long time ago. Different management, different rules.

"Super Game" initative is kinda like their "free-to-play" games strategy.
Like PSO2NGS but the gameplay aren't MMORPG of course, for example: MMO Racing Game for Crazy Taxi.

The budget is like making AAA-games because they got have a strong dedicated server to maintain and it's expensive.
They abandon this strategy now and back to full paid titles ... like Yakuza Kiwami 3, Sonic Frontiers, and Persona 5 Royal.

So... nothing of value was lost? If they were going to spend a lot of money on more free-to-play premium rubbish, then it sounds like both Sega and it's players dodged a bullet.

It's also to attract new fans who doesn't like traditional turn-based JRPG. And it worked because the remake was one of the fastest-selling PlayStation 4 games, selling more than 3.5 million copies in three days and more than 8.7 million by March 2025.

For old fans may be, since they won't mind spending the money to buy the games. But the point to make it free-to-play was to attract new fans, who are still in school or college that don't have much money for games.

I'm not saying it was bad. Just saying it's still a remake of FF7 that we have now.

I'm hoping sooner or later, premium games will fall out of fashion. I doubt it though.

Yes and I do like the change.
If Phantasy Star Tetralogy's gonna get remade, I don't mind if they changed the gameplay too.

Also for the next PS1 FF, Final Fantasy VIII, there's someone who made an AI video about how it looks like if it's gonna be remade.
I usually couldn't watch AI video for long, but somehow I' was captivated and watched this one until finished.

As longs as there are mobile games, I think they will still be around.

"Guess Who's Coming To QuakeCon?"

Quote
This year is a particularly important one for id Software. Not only did the company recently celebrate its 35th anniversary, having been established in February 1991, but it is also gearing up to commemorate 30 years of its groundbreaking first-person shooter, Quake, as well as the anniversary of the very first QuakeCon, later this year.
As a result, the company seems to be pulling out the big guns to get people hyped for this year's QuakeCon (taking place from August 6th to 9th, 2026, at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center in Grapevine, Texas), announcing in ...

I would settle if we get something like the FF3 and FF4 3D remakes. Maybe get Matrix Software on the job.

Wow, man, there'd be a time later when we couldn't differentiate what's AI or not anymore.

Also don't forget the 'gambling' element on gacha.
Archaeological findings suggest that the earliest forms of gambling included dice games found in Mesopotamia, dating as far back as 3000 BCE.
