Sony announced it will stop issuing physical discs for PlayStation games from January 2028 onward and plans to shut down PS3 and PS Vita digital stores between late 2026 and July 2027 depending on region.

Quote
The decision has sparked gamer outrage, including PlayStation Plus subscription cancellations, boycott threats under hashtags like #NoDiscNoBuy, and lawsuits accusing Sony of monopoly practices. Analysts predict Sony will not reverse the shift to a digital-only ecosystem due to the profitability of digital sales and over 50 million PlayStation Plus subscribers.
With the PlayStation Store closing on PS3 & Vita, a few Sonic & Sonic Team games will no longer be available anywhere digitally.
This includes:

Sonic Rivals
Sonic Rivals 2
NiGHTS into Dreams HD
Sonic 2006 DLC
Sonic Heroes PS2 on the EU & Japanese stores
Shadow the Hedgehog on the Japanese store

Jensen Huang Returns to Japan to Celebrate 30 Years Since SEGA Helped Save NVIDIA

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QEg6b58d7KU

Quote
NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang will appear in Akihabara on July 15 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of NVIDIA's partnership with SEGA. The event commemorates a pivotal moment in the company's history, when SEGA honored a $7 million contract despite canceling its next-generation graphics project. That funding allowed NVIDIA to continue developing new GPU technology, ultimately leading to the RIVA 128, GeForce 256, and the company's rise to become a leader in graphics and AI computing.
Founded in 1993, NVIDIA entered the graphics market in 1995 with the NV1, its first graphics processor. At the time, the company partnered with SEGA to develop graphics technology for future gaming hardware, with plans to create a successor known as the NV2 for SEGA's next-generation console roadmap.
However, the NV1 ultimately proved to be a commercial failure. Rather than adopting the polygon-based rendering approach that would become the industry standard through Microsoft's Direct3D API, NVIDIA based the chip on quadratic surface rendering. As software developers increasingly embraced polygon graphics, the NV1 received little developer support and failed to gain traction in the rapidly growing PC gaming market.
Recognizing that the technology no longer aligned with its console strategy, SEGA canceled development of the NV2 project. According to Jensen Huang's own recollections, NVIDIA was facing severe financial difficulties at the time and had only months of operating capital remaining.
Despite terminating the partnership, then-SEGA president Hayao Nakayama reportedly honored the existing agreement and paid the full $7 million contract value. That funding provided NVIDIA with enough time to redesign its graphics architecture and continue operating.
The additional runway proved critical. NVIDIA redirected its engineering efforts toward a completely new GPU architecture, resulting in the launch of ...

"DOOM, Quake, & Wolfenstein Are Not Easy Names To Carry On" - As Layoffs Hit, John Romero Praises id's Devs For Keeping Its Legacy Alive

Quote
"I’m so sorry for everyone at id Software affected by these layoffs," Romero wrote. "I know what it feels like to leave id while id goes on. It’s a strange and painful thing to step away from a place that holds so much of your work, friendships and history."
He continued, "The people at id have done a great job moving that legacy forward. DOOM, Quake, and Wolfenstein are not easy names to carry on, especially in today’s industry. The last few games showed real care, skill and respect for what those worlds mean to people."
A huge supporter of game preservation, Romero also took the opportunity in ...
