At Evo 2026 in Las Vegas, SEGA has released a brand-new trailer for VIRTUA FIGHTER CROSSROADS—scheduled to launch in 2027—revealing the “Bakunawa Killer,” a new character who will be featured in the story and playable in the game’s Versus Mode.
A series of attacks on martial artists has shaken the very streets of Vilasapara, the turbulent island city where the game’s story is set. The latest trailer depicts the mysterious man behind the attacks, the Bakunawa Killer, as well as Pai and Cielo, who are on the trail of his true identity.
VIRTUA FIGHTER CROSSROADS is an all-new installment in the iconic fighting game series that delivers a bold action-adventure experience that blends a cinematic narrative with the pure, realistic combat the franchise is known for.

Interesting, though wonder why they are doing away with the realistic FPS fighting system that was shown last year at the official series re-launch reveal, where it was believed SEGA was working with Nvidia to achieve the new system for the next Virtua Fighter, that was one of the aspects that got everybody talking, but the animation now looks more akin to Mortal Kombat, unless it is still very early prototype tech they are using as a placeholder just now, or maybe the technology just still isn’t there yet to achieve something as advanced as that and it was more just a souped up graphical showcase to generate hype for the series re-launch.
Yes, this is what Virtua Fighter needed. A masked serial killer. 🙄
I was all for the initial concept trailer with Akira fighting in a street market. The slightly exaggerated realism and fluid combos looked compelling next to the bizarre burlesque that is Tekken 8 (which, I’ll admit, is good at its job). But the more blood splatters and Darker and Edgier™️ backstory they unveil, the more this new VF looks like every other Gamer Fuel fodder on the market. I’m out.
Same, I’ll be skipping this one. How do we go from VF games with no story (save for whatever fluff they put in the manuals) and no cutscenes aside from character intros/outros to a VF game whose recent trailers showed like 0% fighting gameplay. It’s all cutscenes or “watch this super cool thing happen for 1 second” moments. It truly boggles the mind, especially that the trailers they showed forever ago focused more on showing off the new features for the fighting gameplay. If at least it had some sort of appeal, but there really is none. The new main character is just ugly and similarly the setting is merely various shades of brown or dark with neons and rain. Very original. The story seems like it’s not going to break any new grounds in terms of creativity, either. Another case of alienating the core audience to appeal to the masses.
