It's a nice pun.
Japanese version uses the word "RAVI' though, I don't know why.

RAVIng Rabbits!

They already did with Space Channel 5

About the later two, I blamed the branding of the franchise / the titles.
Even Europe and North America had different version of the title.
The Japanese title were indeed weirder :
"I'm willing to die for you" and "Where do babies come from?"
but at least it's still more memorable than just "Project Rub"

Yeah I guess what puts me off about FtM/RR is that games like WarioWare, Rhythm Heaven and Raving Rabbits use recognizable, colourful and appealing characters while FtM/RR has silhouettes that make innuendo references. My guess it wasn't as popular as the other games given it literally lacked a face for itself.

I find the lack of faces art direction were kinda unique though at that time.
Also the protagonist having no face made it easier for gamers to self-insert theirself to the game since FtM/RR protagonist is us.

Still self-insert protagonist usually are for RPG or sport games, not for rhythm & mini game compilation genre.
And now newest games always let us customize how we look.

I guess so, but these games were not catching on as Nintendo microgames series.

Yeah. But tbf Nintendo microgames series started at Game Boy Advance, so they had an early start compared to FtM/RR.

That's true, but look how fun and colourful these characters look in comparison to black silhouettes!

But Sony's hit rhythm game series, PATAPON, also use black silhouettes and not more colorful than FtM/RR.
