Yes, but not because of a friendship with Messi. It's bigger than that. Argentina's national football team during the World Cup was already heavily criticized due to a mix of perceived arrogance, historical controversies, fan behavior (some supporters were caught on viral streams making monkey gestures and telling Black influencers to "cry at the zoo" during matches against Cape Verde and Egypt), and a suspect of favoritism from FIFA and match officials.
