SEGA Talk #178: US Box Art Design (1989-2001)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9b8-5qwZYQA

Quote
In this episode of Sega Talk, we track the radical evolution of SEGA’s North American branding, from the clinical “graph paper” grids of the Master System to the high-tech “black box” era of the Genesis. We dive deep into why Sega abandoned its uniform look for the iconic red-stripe rebrand of the 90s, the switch to the massive plastic long-boxes of the Saturn, and finally, the Dreamcast’s sleek transition from bright orange swirls to the edgy “SegaNet” black. It’s a nostalgic look at how Sega used graphic design as a weapon in the console wars, shifting from a toy company aesthetic to a lifestyle brand that defined a generation.

Other than PSO1&2 and Spiral Knight, has Sega ever hosted any other MMORPGs?

I know of Dragon's Dream for Sega Saturn and PC, but that was Japan exclusive and short-lived. Curious if any Sega MMORPGs ongoing to this day.

Does Outrigger still have active servers?

Yes, there were ...

- Warhammer Online for PC
- The Matrix Online for PC
- Habitat II for SEGA Saturn
- Dragon's Dream for SEGA Saturn and PC
- Samurai & Dragons for PS Vita
- Doctor Who: Worlds in Time for PC (web browser with the Adobe Flash plugin)
- Phantasy Star Universe
- Phantasy Star Universe: Ambition of the Illuminus
- Kingdom Conquest II for iOS and Android

All of their servers were already shut down though.

Nope, there's only PSO2 (and PSO2es for JP) now. There are still many online SEGA games but they're not MMORPG.

No, official Sega servers for Outrigger were shut down years ago, but you can use fan servers.

I didn't know PSU was an MMO. I thought it was its own game.
Are any of these MMOs still accessible or have private servers?
I know that via emulators, you can still play PSO1 games online, but you need to sign up with Schthack or Sylverant to access their private servers.

Unfortunately not. Other than PSO2 and PSO2es, some of them relied on fan servers now that of course requires their own signing up.

Darn. I did try Spiral Knight when it was fairly new, but I dunno what it's like these days.

In 2016  Spiral Knight publishing rights for the game were transferred from Sega to Grey Havens so I don't think it's counted as SEGA MMORPG anymore after that.
