Happy Anniversary! Michael Jackson's Moonwalker (Arcade, Genesis) released 33 years ago today!

In 1988, Michael Jackson contacted Sega about developing a video game that would capture his persona.
Sega and Jackson then began working on an arcade video game based on his Moonwalker film and "Smooth Criminal" music video released that year.
A prototype unit was demonstrated at Mexico's American Amusement Machine Association (AAMA) exhibition in early July 1990.
Jackson assisted Sega's game designers on the development of the game.

For real. In the ultimate "What If...?" story, Jackson met with Stan Lee and businessman Peter Paul in 2000 to discuss the possibility of buying Marvel Comics.
As The Comics Journal reported, "Jackson, who was an avowed fan of Lee's work at Marvel, was reportedly interested and sat down with Lee and Paul to discuss the possibilities. [Jim] Salicrup, who was also present, recalls Jackson saying to Lee, 'If I buy Marvel, you'll help me run it, won't you?'" The deal ultimately fell through when the current owner refused to accept less than $1 billion.

Phantasy Star II - Sound Engine Replacement Patch

These patches work to change the sound engine and PCM samples of one region’s release of Phantasy Star II to the other’s.

The original japanese release used a different sound engine than the west’s. More knowledgeable people have said to this hack’s author that it looks like it may have been translated into 68K assembly from Z80 assembly.

Meanwhile, the western releases (English, Brazillian Portuguese) used a rewritten 68K sound engine that (apparently) doesn’t bear as much resemblance to a Z80 program.
