Neither do I. But given school takes up most of our childhood (whenever we wanted it or not), it still rooted into our nostalgia in later life. Such as colouring pencils we used to use, or the kind of textbooks we used to write on. Or school binders with those metal rings that could clamp your hand if you're not careful!

And heck, when it comes to home hobbies, even schools can be helpful. If a stationery shop is not available to you, you could ask your teacher for supplies you can bring home, or schools will sometimes have their own stationery shop to purchase textbooks, binder and such. The things school sell were supposed to be for schoolwork, but you could still take them home for your own interest and hobbies.

You could bring those blank textbooks home and use them to write whatever you want on them, or buy a binder with sleeves to use to collect comic issues with.

That's true. Our childhood couldn't be separated from school and scholl offers many benefit outside of studying too.
School gave me friends too. I remember once or twice a week I used to go to arcade center with my friends after school's over.
We rarely played though since our parents definitely didn't want we waste money on video games.
Most of the time we're only watching other people played the games which sometimes gave us a clue how to beat a game efficiently with just one coin.

One of my fond memories...

I woke up to see it snowing. Not only that, but it was a thick layer of snow... could it be, a "snow day"? But alas, there was no announcement. So I had to go to school where I met with my BFF.

But instead of going to usual class, the headmaster asked us to go to the gym hall, which was not something we normally do.

As we sat there, the headmaster and the teachers talked amongst themselves. And then they announced it, they cancelled the school day!

The students cheered and got up to leave. But, I stopped my friend from getting up and told him to stay seated. "Why are you stopping me?", he asked. I pointed to the exit and asked "Do you really want to get involved in that?", I pointed to all the students cramming around the door trying to get out. The students didn't care for order or patience, they wanted their snow day. Once the horde "thinned out", then me and my friend left the school with ease.

Given there's no arcade where we lived, our after school activity was going to the library to enjoy the computers... I think I had my own PC at the time, but before I got my own computer, public library computers were my go-to. But even after getting my own PC, my friend and I hanged out at the library after school. That day, we got to go to the library much earlier than expected.

But still, I haven't seen snow that thick before, and likely will ever again. It was so thick, it made a satisfying crunching noise when you walked.

Don't get me wrong, never liked school, I found it a chore. But that's one of my most fondest school memories... mostly for not being a school day.

From our friends at Screaming Villains comes the announcement of another Digital Pictures FMV remaster! Prize Fighter – Heavyweight Edition has been announced to release February 20, 2026 digitally to the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and PC via Steam.
Prize Fighter originally released to the SEGA CD in 1993, and is described as taking players “closer than a ringside seat” as the game “puts you right in the game”. Interestingly, the digital release is being developed by and published by Screaming Villains, with no mention of...

Snow can be a problem and hazard in general. It's cold and cause pavements to freeze making it a slipping hazard.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W17-364CIVI

But, snow feels like such a treat! It's the only kind of weather I know of you can "play with", such as snowmen, snowball fights, sledging and some even go as far as constructing forts out of snow if there is enough of it around.

And seeing freshly fallen, untouched snow, it's like a blank canvas ready for art! It just changes the whole world around you more than spring, summer or autumn could ever do.

Or, if you're not that fond of going out in the cold, just bundle up with a warm drink, turn off the electricity and just watch the snow fall from the living room or bedroom window!

It's why I wish for a "White Christmas" every year, because snow itself is like a gift.

We don't have that kind of gift here, lol.
When I sang "I'm dreaming of a White Christmas" it's just really about "dreaming".

So I'm curious, when you play snowball fights, does it hurt when the snowball hits your face?
Or just like a splash of water?

Doesn't hurt at all, it's not even like being splashed by water.

It's kind of like... a scrunched up ball of paper. If you throw it at someone, it harmlessly bounces off them, causing no harm whatsoever given the uneven surface-tension and air-pockets it has.

While snow is made from water, snow doesn't "splash" given it's in a more solid state. It simply breaks apart on impact. Worst case scenario I imagine is if it hits you in the eye then that would be mildly annoying, but it shouldn't cause any serious irritation given it is just snow.

However, some @$$holes put stones in snowballs, or even freeze them to make "iceballs" which do cause harm. So don't do that. Nor should you use "yellow snow".

Snowball fights are relatively harmless and clean fun. What kids used to play before online-FPS became more a thing.

Hideki Sato, Father of Sega Hardware, Dies at 75

Quote
Sato joined Sega in 1971 and led development of major home consoles like the SG-1000, Master System, Mega Drive, Saturn, and Dreamcast over three decades.
As R&D director from 1989 and later president, he pushed innovative designs, such as the Mega Drive's powerful 68000 processor that enabled Sonic the Hedgehog's speed.
Composer Yuzo Koshiro paid tribute, saying none of his Mega Drive soundtracks would have been possible without Sato's consoles, while fans reminisced about blasting through levels and shared vintage photos of him with prototypes.

That does sound fun. I remember when the magician David Copperfield came here saying that he'd make a snowrain in Indonesia.
But it's kinda dissapointing since my friend who experienced the real snow saying they still felt too different.
This one's of course a fake ones made from some kind of soap.

Depended on do you really wanna play it or not.
Steam version's could use save states too like emulator.
The two games from SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive are beautiful to explore but the difficulies are hard.
T-Rex's always suddenly coming in the middle of the stage which's always surprised me at first (sometimes made me laught oo).

But I had fun playing it, especially playing as the raptor.

Back then rarely a game let us to play as an antagonist.
Wish we could play as the T-Rex too.

Snow Days are brilliant. Kind of difficult, yet interesting to explain it to someone who live in tropical climate as yourself.

Seeing everything covered in snow, I guess it's like an "aesthetic" to your world? Also, given snow dampens sound, it also tends to bring a serene noticeable silence.

I remember playing the Game Gear version of it. Some of the music is stuck in the recesses of my brain to this day.
(For some reason, I sometimes get Sonic 1 Sky High Zone theme confused with Jurassic Park for some reason.)

Oh yeah, I love the calming aspect of the snow that I saw on youtube.
Likethe sound of flowing river, it's kinda meditative.

I haven't tried the Game Gear version.
I'll give it a go later, hopefully it's easier compared to Mega Drive version.

Might've been for the Master System as well.

Like the silence in the middle of the night?

Yeah, it was.
The sequel (The Lost World: Jurassic Park) wasn't though.
It's only on Mega Drive and Game Gear.
