Red Star Rings as a currency, that's what's on one (or more) of Sonic mobile games.
I forgot which one, Sonic Dash 2: Sonic Boom I think.
I think all of them uses red star rings as freemium currency. I wouldn't mind if Avatar Battle Mode did the same. Free red star rings could be given by actually playing the main game while additional red star rings could be purchased.
In Sonic Colors (both OG and Ultimate), getting Red Star Rings unlock a stage too.
A 2D stage with lego-like background, sometimes changing into 3D, called Game Land.
There are 21 stages of them.
7 are available in the beginning and the other 14 had to be cleared by getting about 10 Red Stars each.
The stages are kinda fun for me who prefer 2D Sonic over 3D Sonic, but I already played them in Wii version.

Well it shows reward for red star rings than just for achievements. If red star rings or S-ranks offer more rewards I'd be more interested in earning them. Oftem to me a B-rank is a good enough for me and move on to the next stage in order to enjoy the story.

I believe SEGA realizes this too... But whether they'll still use it on later Sonic games that's another matter.

I'm already satisfied with D level if the level's frustating to play, lol, like one stage from Sonic Lost World (3DS) with suicide bombing penguins that always respawn. Not to metion that annoying Snowball of Doom.

But getting red rings from each level to trade it with rewards sure does add replayability a lot for the game.

Intellivision Entertainment Announces Amico Roadshow and Tour

The Crayola Experience in Pennsylvania was so much fun that the kids and their parents didn’t want to put the game down.
We decided to extend the opportunity to a larger audience by hosting events in other cities,” said Dani Erdelatz, who leads consumer events at Intellivision.
“We are hoping to expand this roadshow to even more places in the future and getting Amico in the hands of even more families around the country.”

The Intellivision Amico might finally come out, but will anybody care?

Quote
Every time it gets delayed, the hardware inside the Amico becomes more and more outdated compared to modern consoles and phones.
Past attempts at retro consoles and cheap Android-powered machines, like the Ouya, have consistently failed to make a splash once they reach retail shelves and consumers.
Even Valve’s attempt at a pseudo-console was a big flop.

Japan's Switch Online Service Gets The Six-Button Sega Mega Drive Controller

Quote
If you're located in Japan though and happen to be an NSO member, it seems you'll actually be able to get your hands on the six-button version of Sega's wireless GamePad.
While obviously, it's not the best news for Sega fans here in the west, it's not all that surprising, either.
When Sega released its Sega Mega Drive Mini locally in 2019, it did exactly the same thing - making the six-button gamepad exclusive to Japan.

Okay... if that deal is extended internationally then that will be a good incentive of me to get a Nintendo Switch next to Sonic exclusives for the Switch. Though if these japanese Mega Drive Switch controllers work universally then I'll try to get one off eBay.

Yes, it works universally.
Actually western version already got controller like this but made by third party from 8BitDo and Retro-Bit (officially licensed).
From original SEGA Genesis (with receiver) or for modern platform like PC, android, and Nintendo Switch.

Alright, I'll add it to my list of reasons to get a Nintendo Switch. I don't own a switch but those Joycons don't look all that practical for my giant meaty hands.

Khinsider Has Removed 500+ Albums Related to Sega

Quote
"Segapocalypse!
Wave Master, the company that manages Sega's music, has contacted me and asked me to remove lots of albums related to Sega.
At the end of the day, over 500 albums were removed, including Sonic, OutRun, and others.
Unfortunately, this even included fan made compilation albums for games that have no commercial releases, which, quite frankly, makes absolutely no sense.
If you were wondering why some albums have disappeared on the site, this is why."

This includes PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. Sadly looks like PC gamers have been left out.

Intellivision Is Selling NFT Games For A Console That Ain't Even Out Yet

Quote
While the console has missed its latest release window, it seems Intellivision is still interested in offering people a chance to buy games for the console.
Announced in a video today, Intellivision is now selling collections of physical games for the Amico.
Well, sort of. What is in the box is an RFID card which can be used with your Amico (one day) to unlock access to whatever game is connected to that card.
Each of these games you purchase and download through the RFID card is tied to an NFT that itself is part of a blockchain

Review: Gleylancer (Switch) - 9 of 10 - A Brilliant 16-Bit Shmup Sparkles With Mod Cons

Quote
A separate “Cheater’s mode” is available for those who want to use it, granting access to the classic level-skipping, invincibility-toggling cheat menu that was already present in the original game without having to perform any finger twisting input codes.
And if that all sounds either too easy or too different for comfort, the original Japanese version of the game is never more than a few button presses away, unsullied by modern tweaks, translations, and other conveniences.
