IDW Sonic Comics Unveil Sonic #87 Covers and Tease Road to 100 with New Villain and Silver-Blaze Adventure

Quote
IDW Publishing revealed exclusive previews in AIPT Comics' Super Sonic Monthly #4, unveiling three striking covers for Sonic the Hedgehog #87 and teases for the connected 'Road to 100' arc from issues #82 to #100.
The May 2026 issue introduces a shadowy new villain amid floating gem shards, green crystals, and stormy scenes, sparking fan guesses from Dr. Starline's return to cosmic horrors. Editors confirmed Silver the Hedgehog and Blaze the Cat star in issues #89-91 on their dimension-hopping quest, while issue #84 picks up after Sonic Frontiers and Surge and Kit explore heroism.
Other nods include possible Tangle-Espio team-ups as alliances shift toward the landmark 100th issue.

Too bad, too late.
I still feel sorry for the Freedom Fighters though. They've been around for decades and the only bone Sega threw them for the games was Sonic Spinball.

IDW Sonic been around for a few short years and Tangle and Whisper already have major appearance in (spin-off) games that Sally and the others never had.

Though Archie comic is gone and Tangle & Whisper have appeared in the game ... more people still know Sally than them thanks to the era of streaming service that showed SATAM.
Heck, I'm sure even more people know Sonia and Manic due to Sonic Underground's on streaming service.

I still wish Sally and the Freedom Fighters had a proper send-off at least.
Sega and Wildbrain could at least make a season 3/special of SatAM as a commemoration.

But no. Not even the Archie Sonic comics got a proper final issue before it was cancelled.

Yeah, they could have at least makes 1 issue for it but the Archie x SEGA's contract ended too quick for them to do anything.
Even the Worlds Unite crossover with Capcom ended without Archie has time to publish the final TPB, leaving TPB collector's dissapointed since there's supposed six books (combined with three from Worlds Collide) but they only got five instead.

Archie Sonic comic still lasted after Worlds Collide, though it was rebooted with a new continuity. But it only lasted for a few issues.

Yes, I know. I'm talking about the TPB / trade paperback, not the monthly issues.
Trade paperback's always released few months after the final single issue of the arc, not right away, otherwise nobody buy the single issues.

You mean like the Archie Sonic "Archive" issues? I had a few of them.

Kinda but TPB consisted one story arc taken from 4-7 montly issues with hardcover / softcover.
The softcover still uses strong carton paper) so it isn't easily damaged.
Its size is also has to be the same with the monthly issues.
Archives usually doesn't care about its size (they could even be pocket size), its cover quality, or whether the story between issue's connected to other or not.
That's why right now every arc in comic's usually took around 6 issues so that it could be made into TPB.
For people who lives outside USA, pre-ordering TPB every six months is more common than buying single issues every month (which sometimes the cost of shipping is more expensive than the comic itself).

I predicted Blaze as Starfire.

Yep, I remember that. Seeing the lineup now, Big the Cat as Aquaman's kinda strange though, I thought cat hates water or swimming (but loves fish).
