I figured they would go somewhere of this direction for Sonic's fourth film. Though I imagine it will still carry the spirit of the first three films.
As for whenever it will end up "as good" as the prequels, well film series tend to teeter after the first three, so I'm not going to predict for or against it.

I still hope the story would have twist that's different than the canon.
I kinda like they changed Gerald into a bad guy in Sonic 3.

I read that.

Is this different from that other live-action show from Prime?

My only concern is that as long as Sega/Paramount continue to make Sonic films, we will inevitably end up with a bad Sonic film. And when that happens, Sega will likely cut ties with Paramount at that point.

I can't help but imagine him with Ryan Drummonds voice, particularly after the first Sky Chase and landing on Emerald Coast/Station Square beach, wondering where Tails is.

Yes. This one was prelude to Yakuza Kiwami 3 game which will release in February 2026.
Kinda like "Divergence" which was prelude to Sonic Frontiers.

That's a valid concern but what's the alternative? Stop making Sonic movie?

That's different for me. Somehow I'm hearing it in Jaleel White's voice.

Well... yeah! End with a high-note.

How many movie series do you know that were good for the first few films, but ended with a poorly received movie? To the point you wish they just stopped with the last one and leave it as it is.

Honestly, if Sonic 4 or CD turns out to be the very last film in the series, regardless if it's awesome or not, I can settle with that. The films had a good run, let's not stagnate them with obligatory sequels. Even if there's plenty of game-materials to work with such as Unleashed, Lost World or Frontiers, if Paramount starts running out of steam to produce these movies, it will begin to show in it's quality. And if Sega are not satisfied with the quality or response of the movies, they will likelty do the same thing they do with their games and pull the plug on it and not look back.

I guess so, it's just I can imagine the slight raspy distort of Dreamcast-quality recording as Meow speaks.

I guess that's what happened with Marvel.
After Avengers:Endgame, every movie released after that has been struggling to meet fan's expectation.

Agree.
Besides trilogy is a popular format for storytelling afterall.
Beginning, middle, end.
I do prefer they're not releasing Sonic 4 at all if it won't be as good as the prequels.

they could've ended with Endgame. If they wanted to, just reboot the film franchise later.

Even the DCEU has come to an end and we now have the DCU. Whenever it will hold a candle to it's predecessor? I think too early to say. I still think it should adopt Matt Reeve's Batman, but Matt Reeves and James Gunn will be co-producing the upcoming Clayface movie, so maybe it will be decided by then.

I will admit, be curious how they would adapt Sonic characters in future films.

But, same curiosity for the Sonic Boom TV series before it ended.

We know the reason why they didn't stop :

DC is different. They stopped because the earning was dropping, couldn't make money as much as it used to be.
Meanwhile Endgame grossed nearly $2.8 billion worldwide, becoming the highest-grossing film of all time from July 2019 to March 2021, when it was surpassed by the previous record-holder, Avatar (2009).
If Justice League or The Flash achieved this kind of success back then, pretty sure they won't end the Snyderverse.
They'll keep milking it.

This is why I wonder if it will be best if Sega/Paramount finish up after Sonic 4. Because I don't want the films to be run in the ground like post-Endgame and DCEU.

Overdramatic cat.

Suddenly I want Sonic movies stay as a trilogy.
It's a big burden for Sonic 4 to top Sonic 3.

I know right? And even if Sonic 4 does top Sonic 3, it will just be incentive for Sega/Paramount to keep going until they end up with a flop. And when they end up with a flop, Sega will stop.

This is why if the ending of the film series is inevitable, I hope it ends with the very least a decent movie.

Given Sonic 4 has biggest budget among the four movies it better be a damn well movie and hopefully then they take it slowly from there.
Plus rumour said they add romantic comedy elements in Sonic 4.
I hope it's done well and not cringe.
