It's their huge money maker in Japan so I understand if they're obsessed with it. You could find this in any mall and practically everywhere back then.

It's almost like they still live in a bubble in Japan. I dunno what's outdated or trending over there. Is dinosaur King or MushiKing still popular over there?

They do live in their own bubble.
Unlike the rest of the world, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie bombed there and Saturn is still the most beloved SEGA system instead of Dreamcast or Mega Drive.

Why Sega Saturn and not Dreamcast?

Third party support from Japanese publishers are more massive in Saturn than in Dreamcast.
Majority of the games weren't localized to the west though.
