Sorry, but I don't find him as inherently funny as some people on forums do. For some reason, they think "He's covered wars, y'know" is oh-so-hilarious that they can't stop chirping it out over and over until all of the humor's been sucked dry.

I mean, sure, it's a little amusing to see him put on a Mega Man suit the first time, but gags like that are only amusing for a few minutes maximum.

It's not so much that it's 'Hilarious', but the line 'I've covered wars you know?' has just become the catch-all argument for anything regarding the character. Like "How the hell does a normal guy with a baseball bat stand up against someone like Gold Lightan?", "Well, he's covered wars you know..."

And also, those characters all look alike, but they have pretty different personalities and traits. Someone like Nico Bellic I can't stand, and I thought Chris from RE5 was pretty dull too. I don't even know who half those other guys are, so... no comment I guess. I did think it was strange they used the scrapped design for Sam Fisher in Conviction though, considering that look never came to light.

Anyway, this is getting kinda off-topic, but at the same time I can't really think of any first party developed Sega characters apart from Kazuma I particualrly liked in recent years.

That's not really the point, though. They still look boring and run of the mill. I'd love to see mainstream games take more bold risks with their character designs.

Then again, I guess that's why they're mainstream. There's very little room there for having a creative passion for the medium. :P

Yeah, it is really difficult. I guess I kinda like Silver the Hedgehog, albeit for all the wrong reasons. Cyrille, Duga, Adam, and Avalon were all pretty cool characters in SF EXA.

Master Chief hardly looks like Sam Fisher though, who in turn doesn't anything like the characters from Mass Effect.

There are always going to be some characters that are just dull, but  I don't think it's fair to paint every 'realistic' or modern character with the same brush is all.

Oh also, following up from Aki-at's post about Eileen, I like most of the new Virtua Fighter characters too, particularly Brad Burns, Goh and El Blaze.

Master Chief originally looked like Doom Guy, and he still sorta does in a way. Halo's designs weren't very imaginative at all. =/

Whaaaaaaaaaaaa???

Outside of the brutes, every creature in the Covenant are extremely creative. Hunters for example are made out of a large network of eel-like things who hold up and move the armor around them. Stuff like the Flood is very unique too, are there even any other kind of plant zombie things in any other IP?

---

Anyways, I am going to help Mang's point with some characters I love from the past ten years but that all look very different from one another.

L.O.G. The Lord of Games from Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts

Volf, RULER OF STOOOOOOOOORMS from Ninja Gaiden II

Midna from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

Seth Balmore from Lost Odyssey, along with most of the cast

Sly Cooper from Sly Cooper

There are tons of really cool characters from the past ten years, most people just try too hard to focus on the bad or what they do not like. Come on, just try some different games every now and then!

Midna and Sly are okay, I guess. The rest I certainly wouldn't call memorable.

How about Sonic?  He's the only one anyone who isn't a Sega fanboy can name.  That has to be worth something.

He would have been my first choice, but he's been around since 1991. ^-^

True but he's had plenty of games post-2001, and despite all the oldschool fan hatred, his games have been the only thing keeping Sega alive since.

Otherwise I'd say Kazuma has an easy win.  He's recognizable in Japan eh?

Hmm, I'm sure I'm missing some more :D

I Didn't find the others memorable but this is the character I was going to post, and Just like Ryo Hazuki, his true faith hasn't been revealed as part 3 isn't out yet and thanks to Bayonetta will never come out.

Hibana was a passable character with several execution short comings that prevents her from truly being immortal, but nonetheless Sega made Shinobi with High Heels before PG made DMC with High Heels.

She holds a spot in Sega history.

I prefer Hibana over Bayonetta.
