What Sega could do with PSP2/NGP - Speculation thread.
« on: January 27, 2011, 10:39:38 am »
Yakuza:
We've already seen Yakuza: Of the End tech demo running on NGP and it looks very good. Is this the start of all Yakuza games being multiplatform? I don't see why not.
Sure it isn't Xbox360, but its a start.

Valkyria Chronicles:

This could be good news for any Valkyria Chronicles fans. Having seen the specs of the PSP2/NGP and seeing how well PS3 games like Yakuza Of the End work on it and how quickly these games can be ported.
I see no good reason why Valkyria Chronicles wont come back to the PS3 and simply be ported to the NGP.

Phantasy Star Online:
If the original PSP is anything to go by Phantasy Star Portable games will be very popular on the NGP, I already suspect Sega will be porting PSO2 from the PC to at least the PS3 so I don't think a NGP version is out of the question.

PSO2 was the first thing to hit my mind.  On a 3G cell connection?  Oh man I'd be in heaven EVERYWHERE.  I'm sure Japan's 3G networks are plenty fast, and Europe's are good enough, and America's are finally getting to the speed where it should be a decent experience.

I don't know if they'll put Valkyria Chronicles on there anytime soon.
The big reason it went to the PSP in the first place is that the PSP has a huge install base in Japan, and it's a pretty niche genre (Stragegy RPG).
The system will probably be pretty expensive, so I see them going with.....
Sonic.
Lots and lots of Sonic. Probably some Yakuza thrown in for the Japanese audience.

PSO2 would work really well though.

Phantasy Star Online 2 (depending on how powerful the game is still, I suppose) could really be the perfect game for this honestly. I mean, I would love Super Monkey Ball or something, but that and Yakuza just fit perfectly.

I have always wanted to play Sonic Adventure on a handheld. I know Sonic Team is never going to make a fully 3D Sonic game again, so that would be the next best thing. I would not mind Sonic Adventure 2 either.

A new Comix Zone would be pretty cool on this too. With the touch screen, a second player on another device could draw in enemies or something.

Gain Ground would be another good one!

Technically the series is already multiplatform with the PSP game and that mobile game about to come out. Even if a 3D version came out for NGP/3DS i'm not sure a 360 version of the main games in the series would come out.

It is a shame too, I think SEGA really would win over so many people with that series that it is almost pathetic it is usually just on PlayStation platforms.

Though perhaps at the same time a good reason for it selling might be BECAUSE it is usually just on one platform... Really annoying how I want to look up people talking about the games but 70% of the people just make jokes about Wii and Xbox 360 instead.

I reckon the only time a 360 version could appear if RGGOTE becames a big seller in the usa and they create a spin off YAKUZA game that is outside of the genre the last six games are involved in but appeals to the west making it a Multi platform title.

I mean i remember talk of YAKUZA set in space or science fiction being thrown in. Maybe a riff on moonraker or an alien invasion disaster type game could be where they go next for ideas for a spin off.

I dunno. Everyone I know in Japan who is into the Xbox 360 are all like the biggest game nerds I have ever met, who constantly get sick because they want to increase their score or something that requires long periods of play. Everything from shmups to music manager games too, not just online stuff.

It is just too hard to gauge the interest based on console anymore. Yakuza games are on the level of detail and complexity that can easily be achieved on the Xbox 360 and PC, especially considering this is one of SEGA's biggest IPs now, I have no idea what has kept them.

Exclusives are usually contract led. Sony knows they get a big windfall with every installment of this game so they probably want it kept that way. Of course it depends if sega decides they want more money and other fringe benefits to keep it exclusive.

I should have been more clear, I meant a single game on multiple platforms. Like Yakuza Of The End being on both PS3 and NGP to reach a wider audience with each game and selling better, hopfully.
