Well, TV series fans and gamers are mostly different kind of people.
They won't get into details of who made the animated series. They just saw the SEGA logo and were afraid that this comedic approach could affect the upcoming Golden Axe game.
I doubt it. And even if it did, would that entirely be a bad thing?
Beast Riders was Golden Axe' first big break in 3D. Past games had simple plot around revenge while Beast Riders had a major story, also about vengeance, sorcery and brutalism. But despite its tone, instead of being Golden Axe' big break, it just broke the series itself.
Don't get me wrong, I would love the Golden Axe series to not only be revived, but carry on the spirit of primal-fantasy yet drama established by Conan the Barbarian! But, as I learned/accepted with The House of the Dead/Resident Evil, if you want to play a game like Conan the Barbarian, then go play
Conan,
Age of Conan or
Exiles. If The House of the Dead isn't going to be a serious zombie-shooting scary game as I believe it can be, then go play Resident Evil.
Also, a barbarian-fantasy setting with comedy elements can work really well if it has the right balance of action, adventure and humour.
Korgoth of Barbaria being a prime example of this. (I can't find full Pilot episode on YouTube, so SeeFlix will have to do.)
So while Golden Axe TV series will be a comedy, I trust it's in the right hands.
