Just because he doesn't die that doesn't disminish the murder attempt.
Well, main character dies all the time, that's why they usually have 3-9 lives in the game.
It's just he word 'murder' is usually taboo in the west for all ages games.
Some taboo words got changed from their Japanese version like : The word "death" or "kill" was changed into "sent to the shadow realm" and "holy" was chnaged into "white".
Special for UK, "ninja" was changed into "hero".
Now, I wonder, was this song's lyric changed into "go hero go hero go" and "hero hero rap" back then in UK?

Yeah, censorship was weird back then.
Life expetancy of birds' average is around 2 to 5 years, so flickies shouldbe the same. Though they're not supposed to have same personalities, what if some flickies were involved in a crime plan. From a family of the ones who Sonic didn't rescue or was too late to rescue so now wonder they became evil.

Flicky was regarded a sparrow, so yeah, House Sparrows do live for roughly 2-5 years, 3 on average.
But later Sonic games, especially Sonic 3D, regard flickies as their own species of bird, even possessing an ability of interdimensional travel.
I was thinking about Mimic. He could pose as anyone, Mister Kitsch included.
I think that would be too obvious of an answer for a detective mystery series. That and it would be too soon to bring him back after his "supposed" death. Other than that, given his history as a theatre performer and with the Diamond Cutters, wouldn't Mimic make drama over it if Whisper was involved?
My guess is, Mister Kitsch is an accomplice, working with
Enigma the Phantom Thief.
While her disguise as Megami may seem rather plain, she is still regarded as a "master of disguise", so she could disguise herself as Knuckles, Tails and Tangle.
As for how she is replicating Tails' fight and Tangles prehensile tail, or what's in it for Mister Kische, I don't know. But Kische is my suspect.
