I actually think SEGA get some really harsh criticism about Sonic. Everyone seems to have a different opinion as to what a 3D sonic game should be and they can't cater for everyone. Some of them are bad, but others you can see the attempt and effort being made. I'm just not sure they've found the right mix yet.

I kind of think they should stick with generations as the basis and fine tune it. Pull the camera back a bit, get rid of the boost and have the speed rewarded through momentum. Despite it's flaws, I did like it when they tried to make a story around the game too like they did with Sonic Adventure 2. But, again, it's one of those things that you can't please everyone.

You mean you hope there's a Sonic game coming and lets hope SEGA doesn't tie it with Nintendo again. And forget about Sonic , all the other Teams should be on the PS4 too. SEGA Japan have zero tech and almost zero presence on the consoles and really need to up their game .

Not so long ago I was told by some here that consoles are dead , how times change and lets hope the Sonic cycle does too

I think it is pretty safe to say there is a new Sonic game coming for the 25th anniversary next year. Aaron Webber recently hinted at it and I'm sure Sonic Team haven't been doing nothing since Lost World released.

I find it funny that TA keeps on talking about having 'zero tech', shows you how behind times you are in gaming. Who gives two shits about a engine when people play a game? Unity, Unreal 4, Source 2, and Cryengine does everything you want in a games engine. Not to mention your pretending they haven't worked on anything in the last 2 years, when a 'game announcement' at TGS says otherwise. But its TA, you hate on SEGA regardless anyway and go on and praise Capcom who haven't release jack on PS4.

Apparently it was Jr, it's hard to tell since I can't find the original Famitsu interview. I'm sure they'd be a lot more interesting information in it.
but the translation from Siliconera said it was the president and CEO of SEGA, which his son isn't. He runs SEGA Networks, why would he talk about positions he has no claim over?

Maybe I should change the picture in the front from SR to JR. Seeing as it was JR.

Maybe you should take the time to think before you type ?. You've just listed over 4 game engines there, why the need for all them when you have Unreal ? . Looking over that , people do care about tech. SEGA will never live down the Aliens Marines GFX farce , never mind that Alpha Protocol poor graphics really hurt the game sales.

Most of the major 3rd parties have their own In-House tech to power their Major productions and I wouldn't say much but so far SEGA Japan yet to sign up to hardly, if any  any of the engines you listed too for add irony

A game . Wow SEGA Japan going to town on the next gen with its 'A game' . What next becuase Atlus make a Vita game that counts as stunning backing for the Vita . Mind you listen to the likes of you Consoles are dead and don't sell and do have laugh at some here looking forward to Sonic Team next game after saying they and their tech was rubbish not so long ago

Sonic Team are one of the few teams that get it and have some nice tech . Can only hope they've been working hard on a Multi Platform Sonic and PSO, and maybe now SEGA Japan woken up to the consoles,  how its needs the West market too, how its lets its own fans down ,  Shame its years late :(

But there's always hope

Its such a good time to be a game developer, thanks to all these third party engines it really lightens the load of your shoulders and you're able to focus on designing the game instead of worrying about the base engine.

SEGA would do well to ditch outdated tech like the Hedgehog Engine and jump onboard the Unreal Engine 4 hype train.

Maybe I should change the picture in the front from SR to JR. Seeing as it was JR.

Do it, he's the rightful messiah to lead us into a new gaming golden age with DoW3 / Warhammer / Isolation 2 / Sonic Adventure 3

I think the Hedgehog Engine is great and they shouldn't ditch the tech... While Unreal is good it's only free until you sell a certain number of units then you're handing over a percentage to Epic Games... Instead I think SEGA should set about building their own multipurpose engine for all internal developer to use. (SEGA West or Japan I don't care.)

I don't think the Hedgehog Engine is great and when you compare it to Unreal Engine 4 it's no contest, the price you save on R&D is no small sum Ryan. Think about it, Shenmue 3 is entirely possible because of Unreal Engine 4, if Suzuki had to develop his own engine that dream would have escaped his grasp.

And it's not just the smaller developers either, Square Enix is happy to use that engine to develop Kingdom Hearts 3 and it's not just them, Namco's using it for Tekken 7, Microsoft has several titles using it and Capcom's using it to make Street Fighter V. You should keep in mind they all have their own inhouse engines and yet they're all flocking to power their game via UE4, it's a ringing endorsement.

So if all the big boys are using Epic to help deliver their game, it's surely a good idea for SEGA to jump on board.

Maybe, maybe... But I'd hate for something like Virtua Fighter 6 to be on Unreal Engine. The problem with 3rd party engines is that games all tend to look similar, with the same lighting and same textures... Even though its not, its hard to explain but it losses something.

Unreal Engine 4 is leaps and bounds over it's predecessor that suffered from this issue. This can be easily sorted out by having good artists on board.
