Phantasy Star Online 2 alpha testing starts this summer (in Japan)

So SEGA had their Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity event this weekend, where they said they where going to reveal some Phantasy Star Online 2 news. The news is that alpha testing will start this summer. How do you get in?

You need to get a special code, the code can be obtained in two ways. The first print of Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity will have codes inside, it will have a yellow sticker on the cover stating it has the code. The other way is playing Phantasy Star Universe and Phantasy Star Online Blue Burst (which is still active in Japan), SEGA has not given details on what you will have to do to get them.

So you get the code and you’re in, right? Nope, the code just lets you get into a drawing for the beta. Damn, SEGA are really making it hard. No word on how we in the West will be able to play or if it’s being published here…

PSOBB servers were shutdown on Japan last December.

On another news, looks like PSO2 will have battle BGM like PSO:

"Shougai uncovered a small tidbit about the music for Phantasy Star Online 2. According to Sakai, …Of course, the BGM changes when you enter into battle (laughs)”

    That's good! XD

    I'd so buy the PSP game if I knew a beta code was guaranteed. I think I'll just pass till an open beta happens in Japan if it ever does. ;_;

personally i don't find this news good to me, i hate it when music changes while getting into battle

    BAD SUZUKI!

The music track doesnt change at all, what happens is that the main theme of the level becomes more intence when you are actually fighting and when you are wondering around it is more mellow…

It worked really well in PSO to create tention… NOBODY DIDNT LIKE IT.

  6. Suzuki Yu says:

Oh if that's the case of what he means by battle music then i am OK with it.

i thought he was talking about totally different music, something like the werehog battle music in Unleashed.

  7. ezodagrom says:

    Werehog battle music? Eeeeewww…

In PSO each area had its own field music and battle music.

Example of the music transition in PSO, from 00:24 to 00:29 it changes from field music to battle music:

I can see this likely not coming to NA due to PSU AND PSU Expansion not being a huge hit on the na market.

But I'll import it, and play it here, buy the stuff I need..

I dont mind not being able to understand people.

And theres aw good chance that English will be integrated into the menus via options.

We have Square-Enix to blame for releasing so many shitty RPGs and what not.

And we have Blizzard to blame for destroying the MMO world.

  9. Suzuki Yu says:

    @ ezodaghrom

i played PSO ep1&2 quite a bit and i know how the music was but i thought the guy was talking about a specific music played while in-battles like how the music works with the werehog in Unleashed or Shining Force Cross

The music change confirmation put a smile on my face

Hmmm, sounds cool. Might as well help me practice my Japanese if it doesn't get an American/European release 🙂
