THQ today announced that they will be closing two of its Australian studios, resulting in close to 200 people losing their jobs.
SEGA, who has been hiring recently for their Australian studios, have two positions open. Art Director and a Senior Engine Programmer are what they are looking for, but the studio has confirmed that they are talking to SEGA Executives about getting more positions filled.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of yet another great Australian developer, and are sorry to see THQ’s studios close their doors after so many years of game development. We will be speaking to the SEGA executives to explore our short term hiring strategy to reflect the sudden influx of talent in Australia. We hope to be able to announce the potential for taking on more staff soon.” – Marcus Fielding, Studio Director at SEGA Studios Australia
SEGA now owns the largest studio in Brisbane, SEGA Studios Australia. Now lets see if all the new talent will mean an amazing title!

THQ is the most blandest and dry publisher I know of…they had no prominent personality.
And they are called Sega Studios Australia know…? I guess any new orginal game that comes out by them, is truely a Sega game, the same way Comix Zone etc. is.
^I think you havent played darksiders. Very good game
Yeah THQ isn’t the best developer or publisher. They have tried, like Crazytails said, by doing Darksiders which was brilliant. I wouldn’t consider Saints Row games bland, especially since they have taken a ‘UNREALISTIC SANDBOX’ route.
Also they are taking a big risk with inSANE and their Metro games are really nice looking. Also they are publishing Devil’s Third that looks amazing.
Hope they buy up the “De Blob” developers. I really like those games.
THQ isn’t a bad developer. They make decent games. At least they’re not as bad as Gameloft.
Prior to establishing SEGA AUSTRALIA, all SEGA products were published by THQ.
So it makes sense why SEGA would want to hire those people now that they are officially there.
