Swingin’ Report Show #25: The Incredible Christmas Episode

This week we are turning up the Christmas light, so get yourself a hot brew and listen to this extended special episode of the Swingin’ Report Show. This week we got me, Sharky and Barry ranting. We also got Sonic Wreck’s Kevin Eva as a special guest, who also used to do Summer of Sonic and worked at SEGA Europe. If that isn’t enough to get you excited, we will also be giving four lucky listeners a copy of Sonic CD for Xbox Live Arcade. Listen in for details.

Oh nice, barry is host 😛

  2. Sharky says:

I wish I could stress how tired I was when we did this, I was half asleep about 80% of the time.

    (Why I barely said anything.)

    Good show.

I do think you guys are under-selling the 3DS’s userbase….since the price drop the system has been doing well, certainly better than the Vita will be selling, so I don’t think it’d have done better on Vita. I mean, the Vita looks to be catering to the same tech heads who bought a PSP, and they had no problem letting the original Crush flop, so…..

I actually think the 3D can help it gain some attention, since it really looks perfectly suited to the 3DS’ 3D capabilities. Sega just needs to put the word out there, maybe release some trailers to the 3DS shop channel so people can actually see it in 3D, etc.

As far as Zelda goes, it’s not really fair to compare it to something like Skyrim; Zelda’s an action/adventure game, no matter how many people think it’s an RPG, and Skyrim is an RPG. So there are areas where Skyrim will certainly be superior to Zelda, (NPC interaction, freedom to explore, story, ) but there are areas where Zelda is superior (dungeon design, puzzles, bosses, combat, etc.) Granted, Zelda is showing its age in PLACES, but I can understand the praise. Zelda games are still some of the best action/adventure games being made, and there’s just not much that comes close.

  4. Emmett The Crab says:

I hate Zelda games. The last one I finished was the SNES one. All the 3D ones are virtual chore simulators and fetch quests.

  5. Sharky says:

nSega, personally I wouldn’t have comparred it to Skyim (although they share a lot of common design choices)

But even compared to other action/adventure games it’s seriously showing its age in many places including story telling. As Emmett said I find them quite a chore to get through. Wind Waker being the one exception.

  6. -nSega54- says:

Skyward Sword improved its storytelling with more cinematic cutscenes and significantly better character animation.

Wind Waker was my favorite one too but Skyward Sword’s proving to be just as fun. What action/adventure games compare to the scale of a Zelda game?

  7. Shenmue3 says:

If you look at the world map in Sonic 4 Episode 1 you can see some mountain areas on the far right, I think in Episode 2 it will scroll to this area.

Generally I don’t play these kinds of games but Okami came along, out of nowhere took the Zelda forumlar and blew Zelda out of the water in almost every aspect. I dont think a Zelda game since has lived up to Okami.

  9. -nSega54- says:

Haha….well, I loved Okami too, not gonna lie. But its puzzles/bosses/dungeons didn’t hold a candle to Zelda’s.

If I had to rate the ones I’ve played…

Phantom Hourglass (sucked ass) <Twilight Princess (sucked) < Ocarina of Time (good)<Okami (great) <Skyward Sword (awesome)< Wind Waker (amazing).

Great show! Kevin was a great guest and I think Barry should take over hosting. He did a fantastic job.

  11. Haha! Didn’t realize I went missing at around 1:09.
