SEGA Amusement USA changing location and name

I guess there have been rumors flying that SEGA Amusement USA will be closing down, since their website has been down. The fine folks at Arcade Heroes got down to it and found out what is really going on.

It seems that SEGA Amusement USA will be changing locations from Elk Grove Village, IL to Wood Dale, IL. They have also confirmed that they will be changing their name from SEGA Amusement USA to Play It Amusement Inc. The company is still going to be operated and owned by SEGA.

This new change is aimed to keep the same employees and streamline operating costs by working closer with SEGA Amusement Europe. I don’t know why they changed the name myself, but whatever.

Border Break 2.5 coming to Japanese arcades next week

This is Border Break, one of those arcade games I really want to play on a home console but probably will never get a chance to, due to the limited market for a game like this. The game seems to be doing pretty well in Japan and SEGA continues to support it. It even has a big update coming this week.

The game is getting new mechs (Blast Runners as they are called by SEGA) and new maps There is also a new element called Daikouousen. Basically “Big Offensive” and “Defensive Battle”. The players will be split into offensive and defensive teams that will have to either defend or attack the core.

SEGA is also allowing users to edit and customize their emblem in game, which will be placed on their Blast Runner of choice.

Virtua Fighter gets El Shaddai crossover

[Example: Jean’s title says “Daijoubuda” (It’s okay) and Goh’s says “Mondainai” (No problem). Both popular El Shaddai phrases.]

SEGA and Ignition have struck up a deal for an odd crossover between El Shaddai and SEGA’s successful arcade fighter Virtua Fighter 5 Final Showdown.

The crossover will have some of El Shaddai’s most known phrases and when the user clears certain conditions in VF, you’ll unlock the phrases as titles (which appear under your character’s picture).

Never heard of the “El Shaddai” franchise, so I did a quick google search. Hey Ignition, this crossover already worked, since you got +1 more person google searching your game.

SEGA to expand arcade business to China

China has like, a lot of people and SEGA thinks all those kung-fu loving communist would like to play some arcade games. So what are they going to do about it? Expand their arcade business to China, make exclusive arcade games tailored for the average Chinese consumer.

Should be interesting to see what arcade cabinets SEGA will launch with in China and what kind of titles they will develop for the country. Maybe some exciting stuff?

SEGA teasing 33 titles at IAAPA

SEGA will have quite the arcade line-up at this year’s IAAPA. They have put out a press release that they will have 33 arcade machines at the show. 14 of those arcades will be ticket redemption games, 12 video game arcades, 3 will be coin pushers, 3 prize vendors, and one of them will be a photo booth.

Some of the games are easy to spot via US arcade vendors like BMI Gaming. They tease that SEGA has a Monkey Ball game, so that will be a brand new title probably shown at the show. Guess that trademark for Super Monkey Ball Ticket Blitz makes sense now.
IAAPA will be in Orlando, FL on the week of November 15th. Who is going to go?

SEGA Arcade: “Let’s Go Kids Elephant Bus” released in Japan

SEGA has been releasing ‘kid arcade’ games for awhile. This is one of their latest ones and its artwork creeps me out. Just to annoy parents, this ride can seat a kid and an adult.

The game takes about 2-4 minutes as you go on a bus route and pick up animals. You can select the bus routes. The game features “road safety events”, you know, to teach your kids about being safe. Also vibrating seats. For the Moms.

Hatsune Miku Project Diva Arcade comes out tomorrow

It seems that Japanese audiences can’t get enough Hatsune Miku, even though the game is on PSP, meaning they can play it everywhere; it is coming to arcades. Actually expected the arcade release to come sooner.

The arcade game is basically a port of the first one, with new tracks. They say that the game might be updated via network to have more tracks in the future. They also added “extreme difficulty mode”, if you are feeling adventurous.

Not the end for the franchise, next month, on July 29th, Project Diva 2nd is coming to PSP.
